FC Barcelona will play this Tuesday for a place in the final of the UEFA Champions League 2024/25 at the Giuseppe Meazza, a field that is always complicated for any team in Europe. Inter Milan has not lost at home in the tournament for two and a half years, since the group stage of 22/23.

In that period, the 'nerazzurri' team has 12 wins and 3 draws, the last of them against Bayern Munich (2-2) in the return leg of the quarter-finals of this season. Against Barça, the Italians are also obliged to win after the draw in Montjuïc (3-3).

And, a new draw in regulation time will force extra time to be played to find out the first finalist. So far, only three ties have gone to extra time this season and two of them were decided on penalties (Madrid-Atlético and PSG-Liverpool, both in the round of 16).

Barça has 1 win and 3 draws in 6 visits to the Giuseppe Meazza

That is why Barcelona arrives at the Giuseppe Meazza with the need to win to qualify for their first Champions League final in a decade. In Inter territory, the 'azulgrana' team has had mixed luck in a total of six visits.

The first of these was in the 2002/03 season, on matchday 4 of the second group stage. The 'culés' drew goalless (0-0) and advanced to the quarter-finals as group leaders. In that phase they would fall against Juventus by an aggregate of 3-2.

Both teams met again in the group stage of 2009/10. On matchday 1, the result was repeated (0-0) and Barça would advance to the round of 16 as group leader, while Inter was second.

Then, in the semi-finals, the Italians won 3-1 in the first leg in a controversial match. After Barça's 1-0 win at Camp Nou, the 'nerazzurri' qualified for the final in Madrid by an aggregate of 3-2.

In 2018 and 2019, Inter and Barcelona shared a group, with the 'culés' qualifying as leaders and the Italian team eliminated. In 2018, on matchday 4, the 'azulgrana' team rescued a draw (1-1) thanks to a goal from Brazilian Malcom.

In 2019 came the first and only Catalan victory at the Giuseppe Meazza (1-2), thanks to goals from Carles Pérez and Ansu Fati. Three years later, in 22/23, Barça lost by the minimum (1-0) in a last visit to the Inter stadium.

In 18/19, the 'culés' reached the quarter-finals, where they were eliminated by Roma. The following season, their executioner would be Liverpool in the 'semis', while in 2022 Barça finished third, dropping to the Europa League.
