Just hours before the draw, the Spotify Camp Nou is revived with the sound of the Champions League as the works progress

Calendar of FC Barcelona

The anthem of the UEFA Champions League is already shaking the foundations of the renovated Spotify Camp Nou. The sound tests carried out by the workers allowed the anthem of Europe's top club competition to be played just hours before the league stage draw in Monaco.

In a video shared by 'SPORT', the notes of the anthem, which plays before the start of each match, can be heard during the night shift of the works in Les Corts. The crews are working at full speed to have the stadium ready in September, ahead of the home league debut against Valencia.

UEFA gives green light to Spotify Camp Nou... with conditions

Similarly, the club hopes to have the Spotify Camp Nou enabled to play the Champions League group stage there. Barça informed UEFA of its intention to keep the culé temple as the first option, provided that the City Council and the body itself give the 'Ok' for its reopening next month.

The work is close to receiving its first phase certificate, allowing the stadium to partially open its doors to the public, with the South Goal and the Grandstand becoming available, with a capacity of 27,000 spectators.

One of the requirements demanded by UEFA for the Blaugrana team to be able to play their home matches at the Spotify Camp Nou is the opening of the side of the stadium, which would allow them to have a capacity of 45,000 spectators. If this requirement is not met, the 'plan B' will have to be activated.

Montjuïc, the plan B on the table while waiting for the Camp Nou

FC Barcelona knows that time is pressing, and with the Champions League group stage starting on September 16, they proposed playing their first match away from home. A request that UEFA finally accepted.

Likewise, the body chaired by Aleksander Ceferin also approved a last-minute change of venue for the Blaugrana team for the first phase, provided that the Camp Nou is not yet ready to host matches.

The Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys in Montjuïc is 'plan B' for the Catalans while waiting for the Spotify Camp Nou, thanks to an agreement with the BSM company that has granted a usage license to the club until February, so the stadium could be used even for the entire group stage.

All clubs must maintain their venue during each ongoing phase. That is, if Barça chooses to play their first home match of the group stage in Montjuïc, they could only change venue until the start of the 'KO' phase, with the play-offs in February.

The Lluís Companys has hosted the last two culé adventures in Europe, reaching the quarter-finals (2024) and semi-finals (2025) after two consecutive eliminations in the defunct group stage. The last time the Spotify Camp Nou hosted a Champions League match was on October 26, 2022, with a Blaugrana defeat against Bayern (0-3).
