Barça debuted in the Champions League 25/26 with a narrow victory against Newcastle (1-2), a result that allows Hansi Flick's team to start the season in the 'play-off' zone
FC Barcelona added three very valuable points in England against Newcastle (1-2) in their debut in the UEFA Champions League 2025/26. Hansi Flick's team was one of the 14 teams that debuted with a victory in the league phase, with which they start the season occupying the 12th position in the general standings.
A double by Marcus Rashford in the 58th and 67th minutes allowed Barça to take the victory in a great match at St. James' Park. After a goalless first half, the '14' of Barcelona opened the scoring with a remarkable header, assisted by Jules Koundé.

Barça and Real Madrid, with the same goal difference and in the 'play-offs' zone
In this way, Barça starts the league with 3 points and a +1 in the goal difference. Real Madrid did the same with the victory, coming from behind and with controversy, against Marseille (2-1). Behind the 'merengues', also with 3 points, appears Tottenham, who debuted in the tournament defeating Villarreal (1-0).
Ahead of Barça, in the repechage zone, appear Inter Milan, Liverpool and Qarabag, the first two teams with a goal difference of +2. For now, the 12 teams in the elimination zone are: Marseille, Newcastle, Villarreal, Chelsea, PSV, Ajax, Athletic, Naples, Kairat, Monaco, Galatasaray and Atalanta.
Eintracht Frankfurt, surprising first leader of the league

The zone of direct qualification to Champions League, for the moment, is completed by Bruges, Union Saint-Gilloise, Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Arsenal. The Champions League returns on Tuesday, September 30 with matchday 2. Barça will receive, one day later, on Wednesday, October 1, PSG in Montjuïc.
