The FC Barcelona squad worked out on Sunday at the Ciutat Esportiva with their sights set on the Champions League match against Olympiacos (Tuesday the 21st at 16:45 CEST in Montjuïc). Hansi Flick led the recovery session after the demanding match against Girona (2-1), still with seven players out injured in the Barça squad.
The team will certainly not be able to count on Dani Olmo or Robert Lewandowski for matchday 3 of the Champions League group stage. In addition, there are two doubtful players until the last minute, one of them practically ruled out. Both Ferran Torres and Raphinha remain outside the group, in the case of the 'Shark' due to "precaution".
Ferran Torres expects to return to training with Barça on Monday
The player from Foios returned from international duty with Spain last Monday with discomfort in the hamstring of his left leg. What seemed like a simple overload kept him sidelined throughout the week, which is why he was ruled out for matchday 9 of LaLiga, against Girona.
For now, Ferran remains in cotton wool, and the coaching staff will evaluate in Monday's training session whether or not the '7' is fit to play on Tuesday. The 'Shark' started in 7 of the first 8 La Liga matchdays and remains Barça's top scorer with 5 goals. However, with Lewandowski out for approximately a month, the club cannot take risks with the Valencian player.
Except when, five days after the match in Montjuïc against Olympiacos, they have to visit Real Madrid in the first Clásico of the season. Toni Fernández was the 'false 9' chosen by Flick against Girona. In the Champions League, it is likely that Fermín López will assume that responsibility.
Raphinha aims for El Clásico: almost certain to miss match against Olympiacos
For his part, Raphinha also did not set foot on the Tito Vilanova field on Sunday and continues to perform specific exercises to overcome his injury to his right femoral biceps. The medical team determined his recovery in three weeks, a period that was completed last Friday without positive news for the '11'.
Understanding that Rafa has been sidelined since last September 26, the most sensible thing to do is to wait for the Clásico for his return to the squad. This, provided he manages to train alongside the rest of the team in the four days leading up to the match at the Bernabéu.
"Let's hope he's ready for the Clásico. That's our plan. Sometimes there are problems in the recovery processes, but he's on the right track," Hansi Flick explained regarding the Brazilian, who was injured in Oviedo before the October break.
