Yann Sommer was Inter's hero against Barça: 7 saves, miracles in the area and a historic performance in the Champions League semi-finals
One of the main reasons for FC Barcelona's elimination against Inter Milan at the Giuseppe Meazza was the Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer, 36 years old, who had an outstanding performance between the posts. The goalkeeper of the 'nerazzurri' team finished the match with seven key saves, was chosen MVP of the match and was fundamental for his team to secure the ticket to the grand final of the UEFA Champions League.

A saving performance for 120 minutes
Sommer kept Inter Milan's hopes alive during the 120 minutes of play. Especially during the second half, when Barcelona pushed hard in search of a comeback, the Swiss responded with feline reflexes and nerves of steel.
One of his most spectacular saves came in the 57th minute, when Eric García shot point-blank from the heart of the area after a pass from Gerard Martín. Everything seemed to indicate that it would be the clear 2-2, but the '1' of the Lombards stretched with a stellar flight to maintain the advantage of his team.
Sommer was the only one who could tarnish Lamine Yamal's sublime night
The duel between Sommer and Lamine Yamal became one of the stories of the match. In the 76th minute, the young winger of Barça took a placed left-footed shot, despite having up to four opponents guarding him in front of the area. A shot with enough placement to become a goal, if it wasn't for the flight of the Swiss goalkeeper, who flew and used his right hand to deflect the shot. Just a minute later, the '1' saved another action from the '19', this time in the form of a cross-shot.

In a duel that was repeated throughout the match, Yann Sommer ended up prevailing time and again, even when he seemed defeated. If he couldn't stop the shots with his interventions, luck also played in his favor. In the 90+2 minute, Lamine Yamal was about to score, but his shot crashed into the lower part of the left post of the Swiss goal. Key event, since shortly after Acerbi's goal would come for Inter and the actions would be 3-3.

Also, four minutes later, in the 90+6, the young attacker had another great chance with a powerful toe poke, but Sommer returned to good reflexes. At times, it was almost impossible to breach the 'nerazzurri' goalkeeper.
Sommer also had key interventions in extra time
Even in extra time, the Swiss goalkeeper did not lower his level. In the 114th minute, he won the game again against Lamine Yamal. On this occasion, the Spanish-Moroccan took a curved left-footed shot from the edge of the area and Sommer repeated the formula: saving slap, this time a little more 'in-extremis' taking the ball out with the tip of his fingers.

Two minutes later, he stopped another powerful shot from Lamine, frustrating a new culé attempt and ending up consolidating himself as the great key to prevent a very impetuous and offensively voracious FC Barcelona from reaching the longed-for final of the UEFA Champions League.
