Sunday's Clásico comeback against Real Madrid (4-3) was the fourth time that FC Barcelona have overturned a 2-goal deficit to win a match this season. Three of those comebacks came in the second round of LaLiga, key results to be on the verge of the title with three games to play.

The first time Barça won a match after losing 2-0 was on March 16 against Atlético de Madrid (2-4). The 'colchoneros' took the lead with goals from Julián Álvarez and Alexander Sorloth, but Robert Lewandowski pulled one back in the 72nd minute and Ferran Torres equalized the match in just six minutes, with another goal in the 78th minute.

Finally, in extra time, Lamine Yamal and the 'Shark', again, sealed the Azulgrana victory. Afterwards, against Celta de Vigo (4-3), the Galicians went ahead 1-3 thanks to a 'hat-trick' by Borja Iglesias in 62 minutes. However, Flick's side equalized the actions in a flurry of three minutes with goals from Dani Olmo and Raphinha in the 65th and 68th minutes. In stoppage time, Rafa made it four from the penalty spot.

Against Real Madrid (4-3), the Whites also got up early against Barça with a couple of goals in the first 14 minutes. Eric García pulled one back in the 19th minute and Lamine equalized with a great goal in the 32nd minute. A couple of minutes later, Raphinha made it three and, in the 45th minute, the fourth to seal the match in the first half.

The other great comeback was against Benfica, in the Champions League (4-5), a match that changed the Azulgrana mentality to overcome adversity. The Portuguese went up 4-2 in 68 minutes and maintained their lead until the 78th minute, when Lewandowski scored the third from the penalty spot. Eric García scored the equalizer in the 86th minute and Raphinha, in the sixth minute of added time, closed the comeback.

In that sense, the key to the culés' comebacks was bursts of two or more goals in spaces of ten minutes or less. Against Benfica, the goals for the draw fell in eight minutes, while, against Atlético, six minutes passed between 2-0 and 2-2. Against Celta and Madrid, there were consecutive goals to make it 3-3 and 3-2 partial (3 and 2 minutes, respectively).

🔝Barça equals its comeback record in the last decade this 2025

The most incredible thing is that the four times the team turned the score around after losing by 2 goals happened in a span of just four months. From January 21 (victory against Benfica) to May 11 (triumph against Madrid), only 110 days passed in which the Azulgrana team repeated this feat on four occasions.

From 2015 to the present year, Barça had only managed to win matches in these circumstances on four occasions. That is, Flick's side did the same in four months as in the last decade. To this, in addition, we should add another three matches where the Catalans also overcame a 2-goal deficit, although they failed to take the win.

This was the case of the first leg of the Copa del Rey 'semi' against Atlético (4-4), where the team started losing 0-2 in the first 6 minutes. The same happened in the double clash against Inter in the Champions League (3-3 and 4-3). In the first leg in Montjuïc, Barça were down 0-2 in 21 minutes, while in the second leg they went to the break losing by the same score.

Another incredible fact of the last week is that, for the first time in its 125 years of history, Barcelona went from losing a match by 4-3 to winning it by the same score consecutively, with just five days of difference (Inter and Real Madrid).

In this way, in 2025, Barcelona has 12 comebacks, 9 of them to win. In addition, the culés also came from behind in Liga against Valencia (1-2), Rayo (1-2) and Valladolid (1-2), in addition to the finals of the Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup against Real Madrid (3-2 and 5-2, respectively).

FC Barcelona's comebacks in the 2024/25 seasons:

  • Total: 12 (winning 9 times).
  • By 2 goals against: 7 (winning 4 times, drawing 2 times, and losing 1 time).
