Barça could face their LaLiga debut at the Johan Cruyff Stadium, which has a capacity of 6,000 fans. However, the club does not rule out the Camp Nou
The start of the 2025/26 season is approaching and FC Barcelona continues to work to announce which stadium they will play in as home team, at least for the first match at home, which will be against Valencia CF, scheduled for the weekend of September 13-14.
It should be noted that, for now, it could not be held at Spotify Camp Nou, because the City Council did not grant the club the First Occupation License, so the Joan Gamper Trophy will not take place in the blaugrana temple either.
That is why, according to Catalunya Ràdio, Barça is considering the possibility of playing the match against the 'ché' team at the Johan Cruyff Stadium. The alternative arises due to the impossibility of using the Montjuic Olympic Stadium, whose availability is compromised by the Post Malone concert scheduled for September 12.
However, this would generate a great loss in terms of income, because this venue barely has a capacity for 6,000 fans.
Barça does not 100% rule out playing at the Camp Nou against Valencia
In this sense, Barça does not rule out any option, so the possibility of using the Spotify Camp Nou against Valencia is still active, even with a reduced capacity. As had been planned for the Gamper, the club is considering enabling some 30,000 seats, in case the conditions allow the match to be played in this stadium.
However, the great challenge for the blaugrana team will be to obtain the necessary permits in time to premiere the venue in the Champions League, regarding the European debut of Hansi Flick's team.
UEFA regulations require that all league phase matches be played in the same stadium, which would cause a 'headache' in the planning of the Catalan team.
Faced with this situation, the club —according to statements by president Joan Laporta— has asked the European body to start the competition as a visitor and postpone its first match as a home team until the second matchday.
Barça does not want to promise dates for the return to the Camp Nou
After the fiasco of announcing that the reopening of the Camp Nou would be on August 10 for the Gamper and then having to retract due to the City Council's refusal, Barça chose to take a more cautious position, avoiding giving specific dates about a supposed return.
It is important to mention that the club has clear several key decisions. The first is that, if the necessary permits are not obtained in time to play the first match as a home team in the Champions League, the team will return to the Montjuic Olympic Stadium after the match against Valencia and will remain there until completing the league phase of the top continental competition.
The second premise that the club manages is that, in case of playing the first match at the Spotify Camp Nou with a limited capacity of 30,000 spectators, the capacity could be gradually increased in the following weeks. In any case, the main objective is still to arrive in time to host the match against Valencia in the renovated stadium.
