FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta met with a delegation from Egypt's Al-Ahly, led by its president Mahmoud El Khatib, who presented the possibility of Barça being the team against which the new 45,000-seater stadium for the 'Red Devils' is inaugurated in 2029.

According to reports, the meeting took place this Tuesday (August 22), with the hosts being the vice-president of the Catalan team Rafa Yuste and Jordi Penas, director of the Museu, who, apart from receiving El Khatib, also received Yasser Al-Qadi, member of the Al Ahly board of directors and director of the Technology Committee; Mukhtar Omar, director of the Commercial Sector; and Mohamed Kamel, president of Red Castle Company and head of the stadium project.

Thus, if the meeting materializes, it would be the first in the last 18 years, since the Catalan team faced the 'Red Devils' in a friendly match in 2007 in the Egyptian capital, where the Blaugranas won 0-4 with goals from Bojan Krkic, Javier Saviola and Samuel Eto'o scoring twice.

It should be noted that Al-Ahly, which is based in Cairo, has a record of 12 CAF Champions League titles; being the most successful club in the competition. In addition, it is the biggest winner of its league with 45 titles and has a membership of 300,000 members and is a multi-sports entity, just like Barça.

Barcelona, a pioneer in sports innovation for Al-Ahly

In this context, the meeting was marked by the exchange of ideas and future vision. The authorities of both teams held a constructive dialogue focused on the transformation of the Spotify Camp Nou, a project that has made Barça a global benchmark in sports infrastructure.

Likewise, the institutions explored Barcelona's pioneering experience, highlighting mainly the advanced technology and direct interaction with the fans. The Al-Ahly delegation showed great interest in the digital strategies implemented by the Blaugrana team, taking advantage of innovations to enhance the emotional connection with the fans.

Similarly, during the institutional visit, the representatives of the Egyptian club also showed interest in the Barça Museum, a cultural and sports space that not only preserves the history of the Blaugrana club, but has also become a first-order economic engine.

Al-Ahly's wish: to maintain a strategic cooperation with Barça

In this order of ideas, President El Khatib took the opportunity to extend a hand to Barça with the aim of establishing a fruitful cooperation between both entities, contemplating various areas of collaboration.

He also thanked President Laporta for the warmth and hospitality with which his delegation was received, and expressed that he is invited to visit Al-Ahly's facilities soon, as he considers that 'Jan' has a great appreciation for the Egyptian team, as well as being a connoisseur of its history.

For his part, Kamel made a presentation of the latest advances in the project of the stadium of the 'Red Devils' of Africa, including the progress of the infrastructure works.
