Barça could swap Peru for Morocco for December friendly

The FC Barcelona board is still open to the possibility of playing a friendly in December, before Christmas, to raise funds and compensate for the revenue that vanished with the cancellation of the League match in Miami. According to 'Mundo Deportivo', the club has received a new offer to move to Morocco before the end of the year.

The African country had already been close to taking Barça to Casablanca last July, prior to the Asian preseason tour, but finally the team led by Hansi Flick only traveled to Japan and South Korea. Now, the scenario looks more favorable to accept the Moroccan offer, which could leave about 5 million euros in the Barça coffers.

Morocco or Peru: Barça will soon decide the destination of its next friendly

Last week, sources close to the club leaked an offer to play in Peru on December 22nd. LaLiga begins its Christmas break that Monday, right after the 17th matchday, where the Barça team will visit Villarreal.

Although the offer to travel to South American lands could be more attractive (it would be around 8 'kilos'), the length of the trip complicates the logistics so as not to hinder the staff's vacations.

In that sense, both the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and the Association of Spanish Footballers (AFE) make it clear that players must have at least 10 days off for the end-of-year holidays, with January 2 being the day of return to work.

For Barça, the idea of playing a friendly before the December break is not new. In 2023, the team traveled to the United States to play a friendly against América of Mexico (December 21), a match that included the main figures of the squad available to Xavi Hernández.

The Barça squad will respect the decision to play before Christmas

This year, the idea of adding another trip before the end of the year is not very pleasing to the coaching staff led by Hansi Flick. The plague of injuries and the saturated calendar have caused problems for Barça in the first months of the 25/26 season. However, the staff understands that this is a decision that directly concerns the board of directors.

If Joan Laporta believes it is worth playing before Christmas, there will be no choice but to add another match to the Barça schedule. Of course, due to proximity, the Morocco option looks more feasible for this month. The idea of going to Peru, in any case, will remain open for 2026, when the calendar allows.
