Barça suffered an unfair draw against Getafe at the Coliseum (1-1). The Blaugrana fell into the trap of the Azulones again and maintain a five-point gap with Atleti in the standings

Calendar of FC Barcelona

The FC Barcelona returned to action in LaLiga EA Sports 2024-2025 and faced a true test of fire. The Blaugrana team visited the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez to face Getafe in the match corresponding to matchday 20 of the league championship and ended their brutal streak of four consecutive victories this new year with an unfair draw against the Azulones (1-1).

The Barça extended their streak to five consecutive matches without knowing victory at 'Geta'. To find the last triumph of the Catalans in Madrid, we have to go back to 2019, when they defeated them 0-2 with goals from Luis Suárez and Junior Firpo. Since then, the Catalans have accumulated four draws and one defeat against José Bordalás's team.

The start of the match invited hope for a comfortable victory for Barça. Led by an excellent Pedri, the Blaugrana took control of the match and each possession was a constant goal threat at David Soria's goal, so their reward did not take long to arrive.

In the 9th minute, the Canary player filtered an impressive ball into the area for Jules Koundé, whose first shot was saved by the Azulón goalkeeper but, as if he were a pure '9', he managed to pick up the rebound to open the scoring and put the Catalans ahead. However, after 30 minutes of dominance, Arambarri equalized the actions after a rebound from Iñaki Peña hit his knee, sending the match to halftime with a tied score.

Barça signed a new rout to qualify for the quarter-finals

Upon returning from the locker room, the blue wall prevented the Blaugrana from taking the lead again. The Barça incessantly sought the winning goal, but the organized defense of Bordalás' team made the mission impossible.

Frenkie de Jong starred in the clearest chance of the second 45 minutes with a spectacular shot from outside the area, but it was saved by Soria with a miraculous stop, and although they never stopped lurking around the locals' area, football this time did not do justice and the Catalans could not score the goal that would have allowed them to add three much-deserved points.

In this way, Hansi Flick's team is left with a bitter taste as the result is unfair, but they manage to close the gap to five points from Atlético de Madrid in the standings after the mattress makers' stumble against Leganés (1-0). In addition, they are four units behind Real Madrid, although they will play their pending match against Las Palmas this Sunday.
