Barça continues to take firm steps towards the reopening of the Spotify Camp Nou. The club hopes to have everything in order for the Joan Gamper Trophy, on August 10

Calendar of FC Barcelona

The board of directors of FC Barcelona formally initiated the process of requesting the necessary permits for the reopening of the Spotify Camp Nou. President Joan Laporta ratified the club's intention to play the 2025 Joan Gamper Trophy back at the culé temple, after two years of moving to the Lluís Companys in Montjuïc.

According to 'Catalunya Ràdio', the blaugrana team has already requested the building and activity permits from the City Council. The authorities plan a period of two weeks to review the documentation and approve the request.

After that, Barça must process the first occupancy permit with the Les Corts District. This is essential after the inauguration of a new construction and usually takes between two and three weeks. Hence, during the month of July, the club takes the opportunity to resolve all the necessary documentation to reopen the Estadi on August 10.

The next step has to do with the approval to install an evacuation walkway in the Maternitat area. The last permit is processed directly with the Central Operational Unit of the Mossos d'Esquadra (UCO), for the security operation in the area.

Before the Joan Gamper Trophy, Barça plans to carry out a test with a capacity of 20,000 fans to determine the stress in the area. In total, the match against Como Italian will have a capacity of approximately 35,000 spectators, this being the definitive test prior to the opening of the Estadi for the 25/26 season.

LaLiga granted the club permission to play the first four matchdays away from home. Therefore, the formal reopening of the Spotify Camp Nou, with a total capacity of 65,000 seats, is scheduled for mid-September

That month, Barça also begins its journey in the Champions League, where the team must comply with the UEFA calendar to determine if Hansi Flick's team debuts in the tournament at home or away. In the 23/24 season, the blaugrana team debuted at home against Amberes (5-0). The previous season, the culés premiered in the Principality against Mónaco (2-1).

The Gamper will return to the Camp Nou two years later

For FC Barcelona, the Gamper is the formal start of the season, with the presentation of the squad and the words of the first captain and the coach to the culé fans. The last two editions of the trophy with a friendly nature were played at the Lluís Companys against Tottenham (victory by 4-2) and Mónaco (defeat by 0-3).

The defeat against the French team was the first since 2012, against Sampdoria (1-0), this also being the last defeat at Camp Nou for the Gamper. In 2022, Barça crushed Pumas de México (6-0) in the last edition played at the Estadi before its reconstruction.

That edition also meant the return to Les Corts after the health restrictions of the covid-19 pandemic. In 2021, the team thrashed Juventus (3-0) at the Johan Cruyff Stadium. In 2020, in an empty Camp Nou, Barça defeated Elche (1-0). A year earlier, the culé rival was Arsenal (2-1).
