Marc Bernal's future is not in doubt for FC Barcelona. The youth player will not return to action until the summer, but his renewal is assured at the end of the 2024/25 season.
FC Barcelona is confident in having Marc Bernal fully fit for the 2025/26 season. Both the board and the coaching staff consider the 17-year-old player as one of the key figures for the midfield, once he overcomes the serious injury he suffered in matchday 4 of LaLiga, against Rayo in Vallecas. The youth player missed a season that promised a lot, but he continues to work hard to return to 100% next summer.
The midfielder suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, along with another injury associated with the external meniscus, which is why his return is expected in September. Since this is a similar injury to the one Gavi suffered in 2023, the estimated recovery time is one year, although the Andalusian was able to return a couple of months earlier. In the case of Berga, his physical evolution also shows good signs for the months of July and August.
Marc Casadó's recovery is progressing well
In recent months, Marc has gained much more physical bulk thanks to the work done alongside the Barcelona technical staff. During his first appearances with Barça, the youth player showed characteristics very similar to those of Sergio Busquets: a prominent height (1.92 meters), a slender build, and elegant movements on the field, always well-positioned to help in recovery and with great class to play out from his own half.
In this sense, Barcelona's confidence in Bernal is total for the future. Marc Casadó has done a great job filling in for him this season, but the '28' must reclaim his spot once he is fully fit. Furthermore, the board hopes to fulfill what was agreed as soon as he reaches the age of majority (in May), extending his contract until 2029 with a buyout clause of 500 million euros.
Beyond market rumors and what may happen with Frenkie de Jong, Barcelona will continue to bet on a youth player for the pivot position who was undoubtedly the great revelation of last preseason. If all goes well, the player from Berga should be ready to reappear at the beginning of the 2025/26 season or even during the friendlies the team plays next summer.
