The start of the 2025/26 season seems to be setting a script for some FC Barcelona players. In that sense, one of them is Andreas Christensen, who did not enter the field during the first LaLiga match against RCD Mallorca.

The Dane watched as, during the match, coach Hansi Flick used all available players for the defensive zone, while he remained on the bench, in what seems to be, for now, a declaration of intent.

The defensive line was initially made up of Ronald Araujo and Pau Cubarsí, while in the second half the '5' came off for Eric García to take his position when Jules Koundé entered.

In this way, the German coach seems to have Christensen as the last option for the defensive zone. It is worth remembering that Andreas, during the 24/25 season, only played 256 minutes in 6 matches, due to the ordeal he faced with injuries.

Iñigo Martínez's departure, an opportunity for Christensen

Although the native of Lillerod is not going through his most prominent moment at Barça, the departure of Iñigo Martínez, which readjusted the defense, could allow him to have more chances to gradually earn a place in the starting XI of the Blaugrana team.

Already during the preseason he scored a great goal against FC Seoul, in addition to enjoying 148 minutes during the three matches of the Asian tour, demonstrating a good level.

Likewise, Christensen faces a similar scenario to Marc Casadó, who, despite playing in a different position, also did not play against the Balearic team and, in principle, will have minutes due to the rotations that will be constant.

The central defender, aware that he would not have a guaranteed leading role during this season, decided to stay at Barça, convinced that he can convince Flick that he can be important.

Christensen, desired by Saudi football and Serie A

In this argumentative order, during the summer market, the 29-year-old defender was approached by both Al-Nassr and AC Milan. However, his answer has always been that he does not plan to move from Barça.

The '15's decision would not only be sporting, but also family-related, since he is comfortable in Barcelona and was not willing to make such a drastic change out of nowhere.

Likewise, it remains to be seen if the Catalan team offers him a renewal, considering that his link with the Blaugrana club expires in the summer of 2026 and Barça does not want to have players with one year of contract, because, if he ends up leaving next summer market, he wants to get profit for him.
