Marc Casadó will start the 2025/26 season, in principle, as a substitute for Frenkie de Jong. However, the competition for the pivot position will be fierce and anyone can earn the spot
Within FC Barcelona, a debate has arisen in recent days due to the number of players the Blaugrana team has for the midfield, therefore, one of those who is singled out regarding whether he will have a leading role in the 2025/26 season is Marc Casadó.
The player, native of Sant Pere de Villamajor, has a great task and that is that he must fight to have an important role in the upcoming season, considering that he closed the 2024/25 season losing the starting position to Frenkie de Jong, after he recovered from the discomfort he was suffering in one of his ankles.
The player will face the next season with a secondary role, starting behind, in principle, the Dutchman who is undisputed for coach Hansi Flick. Although Marc's desire, for now, is to continue being part of Barça, his future would not be entirely clear, according to recent information.
Casadó is playing for his place: the Barça pivot, a disputed position
Within the Blaugrana entity, there are influential voices that indicate they are not interested in opposing an exit if the offer for the player meets the club's demands. Despite this, the sports management highly values Casadó's qualities, in addition to his quality as a person.
In that sense, the new season holds a fierce competition in the '5' area of the Blaugrana team. Marc Casadó, in theory, starts as Frekie's main competitor for the pivot position.
However, Marc Bernal, who was taking over the pivot position until his injury in the third matchday of last season, is finishing his recovery and could aim to have minutes under Flick's orders.
Likewise, Gavi and Eric García can also play in this demarcation, so everything will be subject to the level that the players demonstrate as the matches progress.
Although the Blaugrana '24' is known for being a defender, during the past season he knew how to respond to the demands of the German coach, who already sees him as a versatile player, capable of covering up to three areas of the field: defense, pivot and right back.
Casadó has a contract with Barça until the summer of 2028. Despite this, the 25/26 season will be crucial to decide if he wants to continue wearing the Blaugrana colors, in case he does not have greater relevance.
Casadó, wanted by several clubs and Barça has already put a price on him
During this summer market, several big teams in Europe have sounded out the player with the idea of taking him out of Barcelona. Both Atlético de Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen, Napoli or Manchester United have asked about the player.
However, the German team, apparently, a few weeks ago presented an offer of 30 million euros, between fixed and variables, to which the Blaugrana team responded with a resounding 'NO'.
Likewise, the 'colchonero' team is still very interested in Casadó, as he is a profile that Diego Pablo Simeone likes a lot. The 'Cholo' considers that he is a player who would fit perfectly into his tactical system.
In Barça, aware of the growing desire for the player, they would not be willing to let him go for less than 50 'kilos'. In the club they are clear: if they want him, let them pay what we demand. Will any team pay what Barcelona demands or will Casadó stay with the starting position? That remains to be seen.
