CONFIRMED LINEUPS! Here are the starting XI for FC Barcelona and Atalanta for the match of matchday 8 of the Champions League
OFFICIAL: The starting lineups of FC Barcelona under Hansi Flick and Atalanta under Gian Piero Gasperini for the match of matchday 8 of the Champions League 2024/25 are now confirmed.
Hansi Flick is sticking to his rotation plan for the match against 'La Dea'. The German has once again rewarded Eric García with a starting place in the centre of defence, this time in place of Pau Cubarsí, while Frenkie de Jong will accompany Pedri and Gavi in midfield. Lewandowski is the big news in the forward line, returning to the starting eleven after resting in Valencia.
FC Barcelona Lineup
- Starting XI: Wojciech Szczesny (P); Koundé, Eric García, Araujo, Balde; Frenkie de Jong, Gavi, Pedri; Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Lewandowski.
- Bench: Iñaki Peña (P); Pau Cubarsí; Ferran Torres; Ansu Fati; Pablo Torre; Fermín López; Casadó; Pau Víctor; Kochen; Héctor Fort; Gerard Martín.
- Injured: Ter Stegen; Marc Bernal; Iñigo Martínez; Dani Olmo; Andreas Christensen.
- Suspended: None.
Significant changes in the eleven that played against Valencia:
- Eric García will form a central pair with Ronald Araujo.
- Frenkie de Jong will form a double pivot with Gavi in midfield.
- Robert Lewandowski returns to the center of the attack.
The Barça will conclude its participation in the group stage of the Champions League with the peace of mind of being qualified for the round of 16. The blue and garnet team is second with 18 points and arrives 'on a roll' to the match against Atalanta (the first in history between both) after crushing Valencia in LaLiga (7-1), seeking a victory that, in addition to securing second place, could allow them to dream of first place in the table if Liverpool does not do their job against PSV.
Flick has decided to keep a few starters, but has also rewarded the good performances of the 'B unit' and has introduced a couple of new players to the XI. Eric García will start for the second consecutive match and will form a central partnership with Ronald Araujo, while Frenkie de Jong will continue his path to redemption and will accompany Pedri and Gavi in midfield. For his part, Lewandowski returns to the attack after being a substitute in LaLiga. Ter Stegen, Iñigo Martínez, Dani Olmo, Andreas Christensen and Marc Bernal are out due to injury.
