FC Barcelona has a couple of renovations on the agenda to specify this March. What are they? We tell you in FCBN
The sports management of FC Barcelona, led by Deco in his role as sporting director, gives the impression of being determined to close the 2024-25 season with a significant number of players renewed. During the first two months of 2025, the Barça team has finalized up to five renewals.
- 📝 RONALD ARAUJO RENEWAL - 2031
- 📝 PEDRI GONZÁLEZ RENEWAL - 2030
- 📝 GAVI RENEWAL - 2030
- 📝 PAU CUBARSÍ RENEWAL - 2029
- 📝 GERARD MARTÍN RENEWAL - 2028
However, the sports management of FC Barcelona intends to go further and has no plans to stop in terms of renewals. As reported by 'SPORT', the Barça team plans to officialize at least two contract extensions of key elements of the squad whose contracts are nearing expiration: Robert Lewandowski and Iñigo Martínez. Both veterans, who have shown stellar performance, have earned the opportunity to extend their stay at the club for at least one more season.
Robert Lewandowski would extend his contract until 2027
For example, Robert Lewandowski, whose contract with FC Barcelona expires on June 30, 2026, has shown that his age does not affect his scoring ability. At 36 years old, he has had a 'top' season in terms of his goal-scoring prowess, totaling 33 goals in 36 appearances so far.
'Lewy' is the top scorer of the Blaugrana team and is on course to have his best goal-scoring season as a FC Barcelona player, surpassing his achievements in the 2023-24 season (26 goals) and the 2022-23 season (33 goals).
With this in mind, it is not surprising that FC Barcelona is looking to extend Robert Lewandowski's contract until the year 2027, ensuring the presence of the forward for one more year. It is worth noting that, this 2024-25 season, having played more than 55% of the matches (45 minutes or more), the Polish striker has eliminated any possibility of the Catalan club breaking his contract. An option that, by the way, was not expected to be exercised by the club.
Iñigo Martínez would renew until 2026
On the other hand, the renewal of Iñigo Martínez is another of the contractual extensions that FC Barcelona must carry out. The Basque defender's contract expires on June 30, 2025, and after a standout 2024-25 season in which he has become a key defensive leader for the Barça team, demonstrating to be an organizer of play and a virtually impassable defender, in addition to being the only left-footed defender in the squad, he has thoroughly earned his contractual extension for one more season, that is, until 2026.
It is important to mention that the agreement for the renewal of Iñigo Martínez appears to be delayed by LaLiga regulations, indicating that the club does not have sufficient margin to register the defender's new contract. However, this problem could be resolved with the potential sale of Vitor Roque to Palmeiras, a transaction that would have a very positive economic impact for the Barcelona team and would allow them to address this contractual extension.
FC Barcelona still has some cases to pay special attention to
Once these cases are resolved, FC Barcelona would have little more to do in terms of renewals for the time being. One of the most notable cases is that of Frenkie de Jong, whose contract expires in 2026, and it is uncertain whether he will renew or not.
There are also other cases such as those of Iñaki Peña and Andreas Christensen, whose contracts also end in 2026 and their renewal is uncertain, as well as the case of Wojciech Szczęsny, who is expected to renew for one more year as the second goalkeeper. All this considering that there should be no issues with the contract extension of Lamine Yamal once he reaches the legal age.
