Lamine Yamal Inherits Barça's Legendary Number '10'

Total Laminemania: Lamine Yamal's '10' jersey is a sales hit

The big news is the change of number for Lamine Yamal. The forward from Mataró abandons the '19' to wear the legendary '10', a number reserved for club legends like Messi, Ronaldinho, or Rivaldo.

His rise confirms the weight he has gained in Hansi Flick's project. Lamine will thus wear a historic number on his back, owned until last season by Ansu Fati, on loan to Monaco.

What Numbers Will Barça's New Signings Wear?

Among the new additions to FC Barcelona in the 2025/26 transfer market, Marcus Rashford will wear the number '14' during his loan, while the former RCD Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia will wear the '13'.

In addition, this season two youth players have made the definitive leap to the first team. Gerard Martín, a full-back from Esplugues, leaves the '35' and will wear the '18', a number of weight due to its connection with Jordi Alba. And on the other hand, Marc Bernal, now recovered from a serious knee injury, will debut with a number that was free, the '22', confirming his role in the center of the field for Hansi Flick's Barça.

Roony Bardghji and the Number '28'

In the case of the Swedish player Roony Bardghji, signed this summer, he is registered with UEFA with the number '28'. For now, he maintains a youth team registration, although he can be used by Flick in the first team at any time, as happened with Marc Bernal last season.

The Numbers of the 5 First Team Players Who Have Left Barça

In the 25/26 transfer market, only three new players have arrived (Rashford, Joan García, and Roony Bardghji) and five with numbers in the first team have left (Ansu Fati, Íñigo Martínez, Pau Víctor, Iñaki Peña, and Pablo Torre). The change of numbers has been as follows:

Ansu Fati left the historic number '10' free after his loan to Monaco, and now Lamine Yamal will be the new owner. Íñigo Martínez wore the '5', which has passed to Cubarsí. The '18' of Pau Víctor has been inherited by Gerard Martín, the '13' of Iñaki Peña has passed to Joan García, and finally, the '14' of Pablo Torre to Marcus Rashford.

Which Barça Players Have Changed Numbers?

In the opposite case, two players from the first team squad have changed the number they wore last season.

In defense, Pau Cubarsí has starred in a symbolic move. After the departure of Iñigo Martínez, the central defender from Estanyol goes from '2' to '5', a number that evokes the memory of Carles Puyol and makes him an immediate reference in the Barça defense.

The same has happened with Lamine Yamal, the new Barça star changed his '19' number, which he used during the 2024/25 season, for a new one. The winger from Rocafonda will wear the number '10' on his back, a number with a lot of history and until now owned by Ansu Fati.

Which Barça Players Keep the Same Number?

In this case, a total of 16 players from the first team squad keep the number they already wore last season.

As it has been since 2014, Marc-André ter Stegen will wear the '1' on his back. Alejandro Balde the '3', and another number that will keep its owner intact is the '4', worn by Ronald Araújo since 2020.

For his part, the '6' remains on the back of Gavi, Ferran Torres will continue to wear the '7' and Pedri the '8'. Robert Lewandowski will do the same with the '9' and Raphinha with the '11'.

From there we jump to Christensen, who will continue to wear the '15', while Fermín López continues with the '16', Casadó with the '17' and Dani Olmo with the '20'. De Jong and Koundé continue with the numbers '21' and '23' respectively, Eric García keeps the '24' and Szczesny the '25'.

Which Barça 25/26 Numbers Have Been Left Free?

The FC Barcelona 2025/26 squad has some numbers that have been left without an 'owner'. The only numbers that are free are the '2' (owned by Cubarsí last season), the '12' (was free) and the '19' (before Lamine Yamal).

A Barça with Renewed Identity

The distribution of numbers reflects a balance between the experience of veterans like Ter Stegen, Lewandowski, or De Jong, and the growing weight of young players like Lamine Yamal, Cubarsí, and Pedri. The new numbering not only organizes the squad but also symbolizes the transition to a generation that is already present.

The official premiere will be on September 18 against Newcastle at St. James' Park, where all these numbers will be put to the test in the Champions League.
