The German goalkeeper has been suffering from discomfort since the international break. Should FIFA take care of his salary?
The possible injury of Marc-André ter Stegen continues to be a topic of discussion. The German goalkeeper, for the fourth consecutive day, has not carried out the usual preseason training session with the Blaugrana team due to discomfort in his back, which has kept him doing only gym work.
In that sense, the decision that the German will make to definitively resolve these ailments is still up in the air: whether he will follow a conservative treatment or whether he will choose to undergo surgery. In this last case, if he were to undergo surgery, the forecast is that he could be out for approximately about four months.
Barcelona could save part of Ter Stegen's salary
However, according to Mundo Deportivo, there is a possibility that Barcelona, in the event that 'MATS' ends up being out for a long period, will save the payment of a good part of his emoluments: about €2 million approximately. This would be possible thanks to the fact that the Catalan team could take advantage of FIFA's Club Protection Programme.
At this point, it is ensured that Ter Stegen would have noticed the first discomfort during the international break in June, in which he was called up by the German national team to play in the Final Four commitments of the UEFA Nations League, against Portugal (1-2) and France (0-2), respectively. In both matches, it should be noted, the Mönchengladbach native was a starter.
- 📌 THE DATA: Marc-André ter Stegen has only played 39% of Barcelona's matches in the last two seasons due to injuries.

FIFA could cover Ter Stegen's salary if he meets the requirements
From this, as stated by the aforementioned source, FC Barcelona has already informed FIFA in the first instance of the back problems caused by his last matches with the German national team. Therefore, the organization chaired by Gianni Infantino may have to take charge of a part of the German's salary if, as established by the program mentioned lines above, Ter Stegen is "out for more than 28 consecutive days, as a result of bodily injuries caused by an accident during the operational time of the matches".
How much does FIFA pay for long-term injuries?
It is worth mentioning that the daily compensation offered by FIFA for a player's injury can be up to 20,548 euros per day, provided that the inactivity exceeds 28 consecutive days. This payment does not start counting from the first day of absence, but is activated after those 28 days of consecutive disability have elapsed.
Based on this premise, and as long as Ter Stegen has to undergo surgery and is finally effectively out for the four months that are speculated, under those amounts, the amount to be received by the Blaugrana team would be above the two 'kilos'.
