OFFICIAL: De Jong receives medical clearance and will be able to play against Newcastle

FC Barcelona has issued this Wednesday the medical report of Frenkie de Jong. The club confirms that the Dutch footballer has been discharged and will be available to Hansi Flick for the debut in the Champions League.

The Dutchman, who missed the match against Valencia due to a slight injury to the external obturator of his right leg, has been able to train normally during the last few days and will be available for the European debut against Newcastle, this Thursday at 9:00 p.m. at St James' Park.

De Jong will only start if he is in top physical condition

The recovery of Frenkie de Jong comes at a delicate moment, as Barcelona will face the continental premiere with numerous absences. The Dutchman returned to training on Monday and trained normally before the trip to England. If Flick considers that the '21' is 100% physically fit, it is very likely that the player from Arkel will return as a midfielder, accompanying Pedri González.

De Jong missed the match against Levante (paternity leave) and was also out against Valencia due to a minimal injury to his right leg, near his gluteus. Marc Casadó replaced him in both matches and, if the coaching staff believes that starting the Dutchman would be an unnecessary risk, the '17' will once again occupy the position of defensive pivot.

Newcastle-Barça without Lamine, Gavi and Balde

Lamine Yamal continues to be sidelined due to discomfort in the pubis that already left him out against Valencia. The participation of the '10' of Barça in England is ruled out.

Alejandro Balde will also not be available, with an injury to his left biceps femoris, nor Gavi, who has knee problems and continues under conservative treatment. To these absences is added that of Marc-André ter Stegen, who underwent surgery in July and will not return until the end of the year.
