Good news! Marc Bernal receives medical discharge with Barça

Marc Bernal is preparing to begin a new stage with FC Barcelona, after suffering a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and an injury associated with the external meniscus in August 2024, which ended up keeping him away from the playing fields.

Almost a year after his very serious injury in Vallecas, the midfielder trained at La Masia received medical discharge after an evaluation carried out by the club's medical team.

However, medical discharge does not mean that Bernal can immediately return to action, since, according to the internal protocol established by the medical area, it is considered to wait a year from the date of the operation before the player returns to activity.

Bernal's last match was on August 27, 2024, when he was injured in Barça's visit to Rayo Vallecano for matchday 3 of LaLiga. In that sense, the most likely thing is that his return will occur in the fourth matchday of the League, against Valencia, after the September international break.

Deco met with Bernal's entourage to talk about his future

Marc Bernal has one year left on his contract with Barça, which is why the sports management and the coaching staff led by Hansi Flick have been following the youth player's recovery. Deco met with Raúl Verdu, agent, and Toni Bernal, the player's brother, to discuss a possible contract renewal until 2029.

Negotiations are in an advanced stage and it is expected that the official announcement will be made as soon as possible, in order to secure a promise from the center of the field. For this season he will keep the number '28', the same one he used last season, since due to his age (18) he can still play with a reserve team card.

Hansi Flick wants to take Marc Bernal with maximum caution

The midfielder from Berga was on the Asian tour, although he did not see minutes as a precaution, being, along with Iñaki Peña, the only players not to participate in the preseason. Furthermore, he was not included in the squad for the Joan Gamper Trophy, being absent along with Ter Stegen, Lewandowski and Dani Olmo.

In that sense, Flick does not want to take risks with him and will make his decision together with the medical team so that his return is fully guaranteed. Even so, his presence on matchday 3 of the League, against the same rival and the same stadium where he was injured in 2024, is not ruled out. Barça will visit Rayo on August 31, just before the first break of 25/26.
