Barcelona's board wants to play the Gamper at the Spotify Camp Nou, but the city's mayor says that Barça still has to meet some requirements
Although FC Barcelona announced last Wednesday (June 25) the return to Spotify Camp Nou for next August 10, now the city's mayor has questioned the aforementioned date in recent statements with 'RAC 1'.
In principle, the blaugrana entity hopes to play the match for the Joan Gamper Trophy (which apparently will be against Como of Serie A, led by Cesc Fàbregas) in the new Estadi as a pilot test.
Also, for that day, the Barça board, headed by Joan Laporta, plans access for 60,000 spectators. Therefore, these new statements would reopen the debate on whether the club will comply with the gradual reopening of the venue on the stipulated date.
In this sense, Jaume Collboni, mayor of the city, said that the azulgrana institution still has to comply with some guidelines to return to the stadium, which will continue to be under construction.
"We will do as with any other work. They have to ask us for an opening license and then the City Council will carry out the inspection, especially in the area of security, to see if everything is correct. As far as I know, this request has not yet been made."
The works at the Camp Nou began two years ago, so the desire of the culés fans to return to the home of the current champion of LaLiga, Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup is palpable.
Now, Barça must accelerate the steps so that the return of the team occurs without setbacks.
The works continue at the Camp Nou: paved accesses
The workers who work at the Spotify Camp Nou have accelerated the pace to significantly advance the works before the day of the possible return arrives. Thus, in recent days, they would have managed to pave the areas outside the entrances to the venue.
As expected, the traffic of fans will be reduced, due to the stay of the cranes that are part of the remodeling of the stadium when there are no matches.
According to 'Mundo Deportivo', the entrance from Avinguda Joan XXIII and Travessera de Les Corts will be shorter due to the renovated appearance of the stadium. The Tribuna esplanade, which is very close to completion, will allow access for many fans.
Also, according to 'MD', the Lateral, in the Maternitat area, will have a temporary walkway to access the stands above the parking lot, which will not be finished.
The first four matches, away from home
Barcelona reached an agreement with LaLiga to play at least the first four matches of the 2025/26 season away from home. In addition, the azulgrana team is expected to play its first match as local in mid-September.
It should be noted that the league season will begin on the weekend of August 15 to 17, while the calendar will be presented next Tuesday, July 1.
