Joan García, brand new first signing of the 2025/26 season for FC Barcelona, gave his first interview as a player of the 'culé' team. The player from Sallent de Llobregat spoke on the club's official audiovisual platform, Barça One, in which he did not hesitate to speak at length about various issues related to his arrival at the Barcelona team.

The talented 24-year-old goalkeeper did not hesitate to recognize that his career deserved a necessary qualitative leap, after playing four seasons with RCD Espanyol: "I really wanted it to happen and to be a Barça player 100%," he asserted to the microphones of the official 'azulgrana' channel.

Beyond this, García admitted that his departure from the 'periquito' team to Barcelona was not, by any means, an easy process to carry out, especially because of all the emotional implications of taking such an important step in his professional career:

"They were intense days and weeks. I consulted with myself, with my family... but I was really quite convinced that it was the step I had to take."

A decision that Joan García explained that, despite having an important degree of complexity, he is satisfied to have taken: "I was clear about it, but obviously, because of where I came from, it was complicated. I've had some strange feelings. But I'm super convinced that it was the step."

That step also represented, without a doubt, a dream for the goalkeeper from Sallent: "When you start playing, what do you dream of? You dream of fighting for everything, winning titles and being at the highest level. Luckily, I have the opportunity to do it."

Competition for the 'azulgrana' goal: Joan García, Ter Stegen or Szczęsny?

Already in Barça key, the new 'culé' goalkeeper did not hesitate to comment on his desire to compete for the starting position in the 'azulgrana' goal, a place in which the future of Ter Stegen is still unknown, and where the club is considering renewing Szczęsny soon. Everything indicates that Joan will have fierce competition for the position of '1':

"When you are in a team of this level there has to be competition, it is very healthy that there is, there must be. The demands of day to day make us all better. Among the goalkeepers there is a special connection that may not exist in other positions," he pointed out.

He also added:

"I am very excited to give everything. The coach will decide, but I am prepared and willing to play if I am given the opportunity."

Joan García: adaptation to Barça's style of play and his excitement to start

In turn, the Catalan emphasized his desire to improve his performance at a sporting level and to be able to fit as well as possible into the 'culé' style of play: "I want to improve my performance. I am demanding with myself and I see things that I have to improve. I am convinced that I will be able to adapt to the new style."

Added to this, he did not hesitate to show all the desire he has to officially start his adventure as a Barcelona player:

"I'm only thinking about the first day at the Ciutat Esportiva, when I put on my boots and go to train. I hope there will be many years of many titles and successes."

He also showed his enthusiasm for working under the orders of Hansi Flick: "The pre-season sessions could start tomorrow," he said naturally.

About the 'azulgrana' club's project: "It's one of the best there is, and on top of that I'm at home"

In that line, Joan García reasoned about the importance of joining FC Barcelona, both at a sporting and personal level: "Right now it is one of the best projects in football. Also, I will be at home. It is a team that aspires to everything. I really wanted to join a project like this, and what better than at home," he concluded, underlining how important it is for him to stay close to his family.
