Lamine Yamal and Hansi Flick, awarded in Germany for their great season

A total of 216 players from the German Bundesliga chose Lamine Yamal as the best player in European football in the 2024/25 season. The survey conducted by the renowned German magazine, 'Kicker', awarded the best of the season, in a selection where Hansi Flick was also honored.

The FC Barcelona coach received 31.9% of the votes, surpassing the brand new European champion with Paris Saint-Germain, Luis Enrique (16.7%) and Xabi Alonso, who obtained 11.6% despite not having won any title with Bayer Leverkusen.

Further back are Pep Guardiola (Manchester City, 9.3%), Arne Slot (Liverpool, 8.8%) and Simone Inzaghi (Inter Milan, 6.5%), while Mikel Arteta (Arsenal) and Carlo Ancelotti (Real Madrid) added 2.3%. Curiously, the Bundesliga champion with Bayern Munich, Vincent Kompany, did not receive any votes.

Much more forceful was the victory of Lamine Yamal, who received 115 of the 216 total votes from German footballers to win the award for best player of the season. The player from Mataró won the category by 'KO', with 53.7% of the votes.

In second place is Ousmane Dembélé (PSG), with just 6.9%. The MVP of the Champions League surpassed Kylian Mbappé (6%), Raphinha (4.6%), Florian Wirtz (4.2%), Mohamed Salah (3.7%), Erling Haaland (2.8%), Harry Kane and Vinicius Jr. (2.3%).

The option 'Other / No information', meanwhile, received 13.6%. Will this be a preview of the 2025 Ballon d'Or election? For now, Dembélé is emerging as a favorite after winning the Champions League, but Lamine is also strongly rumored to take the award.

On the other hand, the central defender and captain of Liverpool, Virgil van Dijk, was chosen as the best defender with 27.3% of the votes, surpassing Alessandro Bastoni (15.7%), William Saliba (12%), Pau Cubarsí (4.2%), Rúben Dias and Antonio Rüdiger (3.7%). Also receiving votes in this category were Rodri, Marquinhos (3.2%) and Jonathan Tah and Josko Gvardiol (2.3%).

The survey of the German magazine, although it was published on June 1, was probably conducted before the Champions League final between PSG and Inter. However, this did not affect the notable difference obtained by Yamal and Flick.
