The young Barça star is ambitious and mature before the decisive Barça–Inter for the Champions League semi-finals

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Lamine Yamal was the protagonist of the press conference prior to the decisive FC Barcelona–Inter Milan, corresponding to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League. The Barça winger, only 17 years old, spoke with an impressive maturity, showing himself to be ambitious, excited and without a trace of pressure.

“We play for Barça, not just for ourselves”

From the first minute, Yamal made his emotional involvement with the club clear:

“Since we were little we have experienced what Barça was. We don't just play to be footballers, but because we want Barça to win. It is not the same as those who come from outside. We have been defending these colors since we were children.”

Phrases with character: from the park in Mataró to the European stage

At just 17 years old, Lamine proves to have his feet on the ground, but also an overwhelming determination:

  • “I left fear in the park in Mataró a long time ago.”

  • “There is no age for football. It all depends on the head and quality.”

  • “I hope this is Barça's era, not Lamine's.”

He also valued his maturity in the first team:

“Few players have played as many games as I have at this age at Barça. I value it a lot.”

Inter, the semi-final and the European dream

Regarding the rival, Lamine Yamal was respectful but direct:

“Inter is very strong defensively and fast on the counterattack. They are going to demand a lot from us, but if we play as always, we can pass.”

He assured that the pressure does not affect him and that he feels more excited than nervous:

“It is my first semi-final and also for many teammates. We want to show what we can do and reach the final.”

Raphinha, the dressing room and the legacy he wants to leave

Asked about the support of the veterans, he highlighted the role of Raphinha:

“He sent me a very long and personal message. It is important to have someone like that in the dressing room, especially for young people.”

He also had words of admiration for teammates such as Iñigo Martínez and Frenkie de Jong, whom he defined as “great professionals”.

Regarding his legacy, he was clear:

“I want to be remembered as a player, but also as an educated person, which is what they taught me at home.”

Surprise for the game?

Laughing, Lamine left in the air whether there will be any special gesture against Inter:

“I do it because I get bored at home. That way time passes faster for me…”

And about Messi, he was humble and forceful:

“I don't compare myself to anyone, much less to Messi. I'll leave that to you. I try to make my way.”

Barça, prepared to dream

With statements like today's, Lamine Yamal shows that he is not only prepared to play a European semi-final... but also to lead the future of Barça.
