Joan Laporta has once again staked his claim at a key moment for Futbol Club Barcelona. The Blaugrana president has sent a very direct message to Real Madrid and Florentino Pérez.
Joan Laporta took advantage of his participation in the La Vanguardia forum to discuss the difficult moment in relations with Real Madrid. In a firm and direct speech, Laporta defended Barça at a time when the club's sporting and institutional demands must also coexist with a tense media landscape.
The president of FC Barcelona showed his most forceful side when asked about his relationship with Florentino Pérez and the role of the Santiago Bernabéu presidential box in certain business dealings. Laporta's response, very measured but full of intention, once again put the media spotlight on him.
Laporta goes on the offensive: a direct message for Florentino and Real Madrid
"Real Madrid represents power and Barça represents freedom", stated Laporta, making clear the conceptual difference that, according to him, separates both institutions. Although he clarified that his personal relationship with Florentino is "cordial," he also emphasized that there are "notable differences" between the two club models.
Joan Laporta: "Real Madrid represents power, and Barça, freedom"
The statement comes just a week after his response to the words of the Madrid president at the white club's assembly, where Florentino implied that Barça's titles were under suspicion. Laporta then harshly retorted: "Real Madrid has 'Barcelonitis' and is panicking about the team we have built."
During the opening of the last assembly of Real Madrid's representative members, the 'Merengue' president lashed out at the Barcelona team for their involvement in the 'Negreira case': "It is also not normal for Barcelona to have paid, for whatever reason, the vice-president of the referees more than 8 million euros for at least 17 years. He had important functions and it is a period that coincides with Barcelona's best results in our country"
Laporta: A president who continues to shape Barça's narrative
Laporta did not shy away from any issue and once again demonstrated his ability to steer the club's narrative during delicate times. Amidst ongoing construction, a sporting transition, and competitive demands, the president proudly presented the project, defended Barça's stance in media debates, and sent a message that defines his tenure: the Blaugrana club as a symbol of freedom.
The speech reinforces the idea that Barça wants to control its environment, protect its fans, and build a solid structure for the next decade. In a context of historic rivalry with Real Madrid, Laporta's words once again place both models at completely opposite poles: power versus freedom
