Robert Lewandowski is not having a good time with Barça. Against Sevilla, the '9' missed his third penalty in LaLiga and is recording his worst numbers at the start of a season.

The start of the 2025/26 season has not been easy for Robert Lewandowski. The 37-year-old striker began the year with an injury to the biceps femoris muscle in his left leg that prevented him from being available against Mallorca and being in the starting XI against Levante and Rayo.

After a September where he rediscovered his goal-scoring touch, scoring a brace against Valencia and another pair of goals in the matches against Oviedo and Real Sociedad, the Pole missed a penalty against Sevilla that would have meant a 2-2 draw against the Sevillians.

At this point last season, 'Lewy' had 7 goals in the League and 2 in the Champions League, in addition to a couple of assists. In the 25/26 season, his production has dropped to just 4 goals, and he has started on the bench in 5 of the 9 games he has played.

A couple of years ago, in 2023/24, Robert was far below his usual offensive performance since he exploded with Borussia Dortmund in 2012/13. Even so, in 2023, the forward scored 6 goals in his first 9 matches, surpassing what he has done this season.

The '9' scored one goal in the Champions League and another 4 in the League during the first 8 matchdays. Since arriving in Barcelona, the 22/23 season was the one with the best start. In his first year, the Pole scored 12 goals in his first 9 matches, 3 of them in the Champions League.

That season, however, he scored 9 fewer goals than in 24/25 (42). At 37 years old, Lewandowski seems to be feeling the wear and tear of the schedule, and Hansi Flick knows it. It is no coincidence that the coach has only kept him on the field for 431 minutes, 298' less than he had accumulated at this point last season.

For the moment, Ferran Torres remains the top scorer for Barça in the 25/26 season, with 5 goals. Robert follows closely with 4, while Marcus Rashford and Raphinha have 3. Further behind are Lamine Yamal and Fermín López, with a couple of goals each.

Lewandowski Missed His Third Penalty with Barça in Seville

On Sunday, 'Lewy' also missed his third penalty in League matches wearing the Barcelona jersey. The Pole hesitated when he saw that goalkeeper Vlachodimos was not choosing a side and wanted to adjust his right-footed shot as much as possible.

However, the '9's' strike was poor, sending the ball wide of the goal, without even touching the post. After the wasted penalty, Roony Bardghji also missed two clear chances in the following minutes, opening the door for Sevilla to finish the game in added time.

Previously, Robert Lewandowski had missed two penalties in league matches. The first, against Almería on November 5, 2022. The forward sent a shot off the post at the start of the match, but the 'culés' won 2-0 at Camp Nou with goals from Ousmane Dembelé and Frenkie de Jong.

The last time the Pole wasted a penalty in the tournament was on September 22, 2024, in the 'manita' against Villarreal (1-5). 'Lewy' scored a double that day, but also failed from eleven meters in the second half, with another shot that also hit the base of the post. The one at the Sánchez Pizjuán, however, went wide.
