New economic blow for Barça: pre-season in the 'air'

Barça has already announced the cancellation of the first match of the tour, suffering a negative economic impact. We will have to wait and see if the other matches end up being played
FC Barcelona suffered a major setback in its sporting and economic planning in recent hours, after the cancellation of the first match of the Asian tour, which was scheduled for July 27 against Vissel Kobe.
However, so far the only officially suspended match is against the Japanese team, while it remains to be seen what the Catalan club will do with the other two matches that are currently scheduled against the South Korean teams FC Seoul (July 31) and Daegu FC (August 4), leaving the pre-season up in the 'air'.
In this context, Barcelona has already lost a large amount of money, but if the entire tour is canceled, the coffers of the Azulgrana team would suffer a major blow, considering that it was planned to obtain at least 15 million euros for these matches.
Likewise, that figure could be increased depending on some variables that were not specified. In total, Barça had the possibility of getting around 25 'kilos' if everything went as planned.
Barça, between the frustrated tour and not being able to play the Gamper at the Spotify Camp Nou
The frustrations for the Barcelona board, headed by Joan Laporta, began to be a constant in recent days after the celebration of the Joan Gamper Trophy at the Spotify Camp Nou was also canceled due to the City Council's refusal to grant the First Occupation License for the venue.
This has also caused the Catalan team to suffer a negative impact on its accounts, because the match that will be played against Como of Serie A on August 10 will be played at the Estadi Johan Cruyff with a capacity for 6,000 fans, unlike the Camp Nou, which, despite being under construction, hoped to receive at least 30,000 fans.
In addition to this, the team needs to prepare for the 2025/26 season, but due to the lack of payment from the promoters of the matches, the club must announce in the coming days whether it will arrive in South Korea for the other two commitments, as long as the money is secured.
Barça has lost 206 million due to its agreement with the construction company Limak
In this order of ideas, in January 2023 when the Barça president announced the agreement with Limak, a Turkish construction company that is carrying out the works in the stadium, he pointed out that for each day of delay, it would have to pay one million euros to the club.
Given this, it was expected that the team would return to the Estadi in November 2024, within the framework of the club's 125th anniversary. However, that was not fulfilled and Limak would already have a debt of around 206 million, which Barcelona would be forgiving in order to maintain the alliance with the construction company.
Barça's financial fair play is under pressure
In this context, both the cancellation of the first match of the tour, for now, and not being able to play the Gamper at the Spotify Camp Nou, not only represents a direct economic loss, but also further complicates compliance with financial fair play, affecting Barça's ability to operate normally in the transfer market and in the registration of players.
Thus, according to various sources close to the club's economic management, Barça would currently be exceeded in its salary limit by 157 million euros, a figure that places it in a delicate position in the face of LaLiga's financial fair play regulations.
This gap prevents the Blaugrana entity from complying with the 1:1 rule, which is based on the fact that teams balance their sports expenses with their real income. In other words, for every euro that you want to spend on signings or salaries, there must be a euro entered in a structural and sustainable way.
In addition, the club would have set its squad cost limit at 426.4 million euros, while its current salary mass would amount to 583.4 M€, which represents the excess of 157 'kilos' with respect to what is allowed by LaLiga. This difference, for the moment, does not allow the registration of players such as Marcus Rashford, Joan García and Wojciech Szczęsny, for which the Azulgrana team has had to resort to various techniques to try to resolve this type of situation.
The situation becomes a little more complex because of the 100 M€ pending for the commercialization of the VIP boxes of the Spotify Camp Nou, the club has only received 58 'kilos'.
