The Barça midfielder regrets his lack of participation this season despite a promising start and highlights his disagreement with the German coach
Pablo Torre has expressed his disappointment at the limited role he has had at FC Barcelona during the last season. Although the team managed to conquer League, Cup and Super Cup under the command of Hansi Flick, the Cantabrian midfielder believes that he deserved more minutes and does not share some decisions of the coach.
In statements to the newspaper Sport from the concentration of the under-21 national team, Pablo Torre has been clear: "I deserved to play more, but it wasn't fair". The young footballer, who had shone in some initial matches, finished the season with just 157 minutes played in five official matches.
Pablo Torre criticizes the distribution of minutes in Flick's Barça
The 2024/25 season will be remembered as one of the most successful in the recent history of FC Barcelona. With a rejuvenated team led by Hansi Flick, the Blaugrana achieved the domestic treble —League, Copa del Rey and Super Cup— in addition to winning in the four clásicos against Real Madrid.
However, not everything was satisfaction in the locker room. Pablo Torre, one of the young players with the greatest projection in the club, has publicly questioned the management of the German coach.
“I could have played many more minutes, I think I deserved them. There was a lot of competition and it was difficult to get in, but I don't think it was fair,” said the midfielder.
According to the footballer, he had a conversation with Flick to express his discomfort. “I respect his decisions, but many times I have not understood them,” he added.
From promise to substitute: a season of ups and downs
Torre started the season with outstanding performances. On the day against Villarreal, in La Cerámica, he scored a goal and provided an assist. He also shone against Sevilla in Montjuïc, with a double in just 15 minutes.
Despite that initial impact, his participation was diluted as the season progressed. In total, he played just 157 minutes spread over five official matches (two in the Cup and three in the League). A figure well below his expectations and his initial performance.
At 21 years old, and with a contract in force, Pablo Torre's future at the club will largely depend on Flick's plans and the summer market. His role in the Euro U-21 could revalue his figure.
