Ferran Torres was the star of Barça's rout against Valencia, scoring his second 'hat-trick' as a culé. A triplet that also allowed him to break several records
Ferran Torres was a 'prophet in his land'. The 'Shark' visited what was his home for almost 15 years and made the inexorable 'law of the ex' count. Replacing Robert Lewandowski in the center of the attack, the '7' led the recital of FC Barcelona against Valencia with a 'hat-trick' in 30 minutes to seal the match and give the Catalans a place in the semifinals of the Copa del Rey.
This 'triplet' against the Che team was the second since his arrival in the City of Barcelona and the third of his career. Previously, the forward scored three goals against Betis (2-4) in the 2023/24 season and against Newcastle (3-4) in the 2020/21 season, when he was part of Manchester City.
A record 'hat-trick'
This 'hat-trick' by Ferran is also the second fastest by a Barça player in the Copa del Rey (30 minutes) since May 24, 1959, when Sándor Kocsis scored his third goal of the match in the 22nd minute, on the field of Betis.
The fastest 'hat-tricks' of FC Barcelona in the Copa del Rey:
- Josep Escolà against Osasuna in 1936 (20th minute)
- Sándor Kocsis against Real Betis in 1959 (22nd minute)
- Eulogio Martínez against Atlético de Madrid in 1957 (25th minute)
- Ferran Torres against Valencia in 2025 (30th minute)
Interestingly, the last four 'hat-tricks' of Barça in the Copa del Rey have been against teams from the Valencian Community (3 of them against Valencia): Messi and Luis Suárez in the brutal rout against Valencia in 2016 (7-0); Arda Turan in the thrashing of Hércules also in 2016 (7-0) and Ferran against Valencia this February 6, 2025 (0-5).
Last four 'hat-tricks' of FC Barcelona in the Copa del Rey:
In the same way, Torres became the second visiting player to score three goals at Mestalla in a Copa del Rey match. The first to achieve this was the Valencian Gaspar Rubio, playing for Real Madrid... 95 years ago! A triplet that has already gone down in the history of Spanish football.
