Benfica became Robert Lewandowski's favorite victim after the Pole scored a double in Barça's epic victory (4-5)
Tuesday night was historic for FC Barcelona and Robert Lewandowski. The azulgrana team achieved a historic comeback against Benfica at the Estádio da Luz, and the Pole was one of the key protagonists, celebrating a crucial double from the penalty spot to secure three points for the Catalans and seal their qualification to the round of 16 of the Champions League.
With these two goals, the Lisbon team confirms itself as the Pole's favorite victim at the continental level. In the 126 matches he has played in the European championship, the blaugrana '9' has scored 103 goals against 37 rivals, with the Portuguese being the team that has conceded the most goals from the striker (9).
Teams against which Robert Lewandowski has scored the most goals in the Champions League:
- Benfica: 7 goals
- Red Star Belgrade: 7 goals
- Real Madrid: 6 goals
- RB Salzburg: 6 goals
- Ajax: 5 goals
- GNK Dinamo: 5 goals
- Olympiacos: 5 goals
- Arsenal: 4 goals
- FC Barcelona: 4 goals

A night of records for Lewandowski
Lewandowski has faced Benfica 7 times (6 with Bayern Munich and 1 with Barça), with a record of six victories and one draw. The nine goals he has celebrated against the 'eagles' are spread over 5 group stage matches: a double and one goal in the two clashes of the 2018-2019 season; a 'hat-trick' and another solitary goal in the two matches of the 2021-2022 season, and the two goals celebrated last Tuesday.
With his penalty double against the Portuguese, 'Lewy' equaled Cristiano Ronaldo as the player with the most goals from the penalty spot (19 for each) in the history of the Champions League. Additionally, he became the fifth player to score 8 or more goals in a single edition of the tournament wearing blaugrana, alongside Rivaldo, Messi (9 times), Neymar, and Luis Suárez.
Lewandowski's words
At the end of the match, the Pole spoke to the microphones of 'Movistar+' and stated that "today the match was crazy, but in the end, we won, and I think that is the most important thing. I think three of Benfica's goals were gifts, but it's better if we always score one more goal than the opponent. We need to learn how we can play better, both in defense and in attack".
"After the 4-4, Benfica had a chance for 5-4, and that is a moment when you need a bit of experience and calm. Now we can enjoy the match, and tomorrow we will look at what we can do better than today," added Lewandowski, who concluded by highlighting that "it is very important that we don't have to play in the playoffs given the tight schedule this season".
