Lamine Yamal's impressive record has come to an end. The Barça winger had scored or assisted in eight consecutive games, but Serbian 'resistance' prevented his streak from being extended
The Spanish national team could not go beyond a goalless draw against Serbia in a 'sleepy' match that had Lamine Yamal as one of its main figures. The FC Barcelona 'star', despite carrying a knock from the match against Valladolid in LaLiga, came out from the start at the Rajko Mitic Stadium and was the only striker to complete the 90 minutes in the team led by Luis de la Fuente. However, and despite being one of the few players who tried to make a difference in the duel, the winger saw his incredible streak in front of goal come to an end.
Lamine's impressive record
And the '19' linked eight consecutive games participating in a goal, either scoring or assisting (two goals and seven assists). The footballer's 'momentum' began in the round of 16 of Euro 2024, where he assisted Fabián Ruiz against Georgia, a statistic that he repeated in the quarterfinals against Germany by giving a goal assist to Dani Olmo. In the semi-finals, he scored a great goal against France to start the Spanish comeback, closing his incredible record in the tournament by assisting Nico Williams in the final against England.
A couple of months later, already wearing the Barça shirt in the 2024/25 season, Lamine maintained his streak. In the league debut against Valencia, the youth player assisted Robert Lewandowski to equalize the actions. Against Athletic Club, a great goal to open the scoring, and three days later he gave a new assist to Dani Olmo in the clash against Rayo Vallecano to seal the culé comeback. Finally, in the historic thrashing of Valladolid, Yamal increased his assist record with two goal passes to 'Lewy' and Raphinha, respectively.
LaLiga assist leader
These numbers put him at the top of the LaLiga assists chart, and his four assists, added to the goal scored against the Bilbao team, make him the second player to have participated in the most times in front of goal in this edition of the championship, equal with Lewandowski and Óscar Mingueza. However, the zero registered against Serbia puts an end to an impressive record that had been in place for months, but which could be repeated if he maintains his current high level.
