The Barça board is optimistic about the reopening of the Spotify Camp Nou for the 2025 Joan Gamper Trophy. The Estadi's capacity will be greater than expected
FC Barcelona will play the next edition of the Joan Gamper Trophy back at the Spotify Camp Nou. As planned, the club will carry out a pilot plan for the logistics of access and operation of the Estadi with partial capacity for 2025/26 in all competitions played by Hansi Flick's team.
In that sense, an initial capacity of 25,000 spectators had been planned for the Gamper, where Barça will face Como from Italy. For the rest of the season, the capacity at Les Corts will reach 65,000 seats, including the enabled VIP boxes and two fully operational stands.
However, the club hopes to increase the capacity for the pilot plan in the Gamper, in order to test all the security measures to be deployed from the end of September, when the team returns to play League and Champions League matches.

For the moment, Barça's plan is to reopen the Estadi with a total capacity of 35,000 spectators, that is, 10,000 more than the initial planned top. Plan B, in case of a new delay in the works, pointed to playing the match at the Johan Cruyff, with a capacity of just 6,000 fans.
The Ciutat Esportiva field hosted the traditional friendly tournament that culminates the pre-season for the 'azulgrana' in 2021, due to the health restrictions of the covid-19 pandemic. This year, Barça won by a landslide against Juventus (3-0) with goals from Memphis Depay, Martin Braithwaite and Riqui Puig.
However, after two seasons at the Lluís Companys in Montjuïc, where the 'culés' won the national treble in 24/25, everything will be ready for Barça to return to the Camp Nou, first in August and then in September, for the fifth matchday of the League, definitively.
Barça will return to the Camp Nou for the 5th matchday of La Liga
Javier Tebas himself confirmed several days ago the approval of the permit for Barça to start the tournament playing its first four matches away from home. If, at the time of playing the fifth matchday of La Liga, the Camp Nou was not yet ready for its reopening, the 'azulgrana' team would have to look for an alternative venue.
The reason has to do, logically, with the preparation of the calendar. Accumulating so many matches as a local in the second round can be counterproductive for the competition, forcing other teams to add more matches away from home in the decisive stretch of the season.
In 2021/22, Real Madrid did the same, playing their first three League matches away from home during the works at the Santiago Bernabéu. In the case of the 'culé' temple, the works will culminate in the summer of 2026, with the raising of the third tier and the installation of the roof.
