Marc Bernal has been given the all-clear and could play an official match after almost a year. Hansi Flick has been monitoring his recovery
Marc Bernal is eager to play a match for FC Barcelona again, after overcoming a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and an associated lateral meniscus injury in August 2024, which caused him to miss the rest of the last season. Prior to the Joan Gamper Trophy, the young midfielder was medically cleared.
Although he has the approval of the medical staff, this does not mean he will get playing time immediately. In this regard, Hansi Flick does not want to rush him and is waiting for the one-year period after the surgery to be completed. This is a policy the medical staff has to minimize the risk of re-injury and ensure his return is definitive.
August 27th will mark one year since Bernal's last match, the Blaugrana club's visit to Rayo Vallecano for matchday 3 of the 24/25 LaLiga season. To date, the club's doctors have assessed the young midfielder's recovery as satisfactory and have seen him at his optimal physical level.
Marc Bernal will miss the Mallorca match and is expected to play against Valencia
Not only would the return to the Spotify Camp Nou on the weekend of September 13-14 be a special date for the 'culé' fans, but it could also be for Marc Bernal as it marks one year since his surgery. For this reason, he is ruled out for the league opener against Mallorca.
"I have learned a lot, especially to be strong and try not to overthink when things are not going well. There were times when I just wanted to be at home and sleep all day," declared the Berga native in May. His return to the pitch is getting closer, but the club will not take any risks.
The renewal, the next step for Marc Bernal
The Barça 'gem's' contract expires in June 2026. For this reason, beyond waiting for his recovery and allowing him to get playing time, the club has planned to renew his contract until December 2029 as soon as possible.
The negotiations are at an advanced stage. Deco knows the potential that the number '28' has and can secure a young prospect for the Blaugrana squad in midfield. Therefore, after finalizing player registrations, his contract will be one of the priority matters to address in the final part of the year.
