Ter Stegen is already training at the Ciutat Esportiva: Barça is waiting for his time off

Marc-André ter Stegen returned to training after the operation in the lumbar area he underwent on July 29. Two weeks later, the German begins the recovery process with FC Barcelona, scheduled between four and five months. For this reason, this Wednesday he trained at the Ciutat Sportiva Joan Gamper alone.

The German goalkeeper arrived at Barça's facilities at 9:55 in the morning and had a specific training session for two hours. It should be noted that the goalkeeper did not coincide with his teammates, because the rest of the squad had already started their training session, the second of the week prior to the debut in the League against Mallorca.

While the captain begins his recovery process, Barça awaits the official medical report from LaLiga. If the German's absence is four months, the club will save 50% of his salary. If the recovery time, as the club estimates, is more than five months, the percentage will rise to 80%, allowing the registration of Joan García.

“Regarding myself personally, I think it has been important to resolve the issue between the club and me, and it is time to look ahead”, said Ter Stegen in his speech prior to the Joan Gamper Trophy, in a tone of reconciliation with both the club and the fans.

The '1' recovered the captaincy after resolving his issue with the board regarding the medical report of his injury. “I am very excited for this season to start, we have a very demanding year ahead of us, there are few days left and we are working to have many successes”, continued the team's first captain in his words.

The German goalkeeper is now beginning his recovery process. In 2024 he managed to be discharged in less than three months after undergoing the same surgery on his back. In that sense, it is key that the medical tribunal rules in favor of Barça to approve Ter Stegen's report and register Joan García, who is expected to be the starting goalkeeper for the start of LaLiga EA Sports 25/26.

'Matts', with García and Szczesny in the squad, has no place in Hansi Flick's plans. Therefore, the best thing for both parties will be to negotiate his departure, on loan or via transfer, in the winter market. For this, of course, the German will have to completely overcome his lower back problems.
