Ter Stegen's captaincy withdrawal would not be definitive, due to the nature of the disciplinary proceedings opened against him by Barça

Calendar of FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona has withdrawn the captaincy from Marc-André ter Stegen due to the opening of disciplinary proceedings. However, this would not imply that the German goalkeeper cannot become captain of the Blaugrana team again, as it would be a temporary process.

The reason why the process is considered temporary lies in the nature of the file: it is an open and ongoing investigation. Being "alive", it allows the player to present allegations against the club's decision, according to Mundo Deportivo

It should be noted that the file may result in a specific sanction or, on the contrary, in the dismissal of the goalkeeper. Precisely because of this possibility, the decision of the Catalan club remains a temporary measure, pending the conclusion of the process and the determination of whether the player incurred —or not— in a conduct that justifies a sanction.

In this way, the club does not harm the goalkeeper, since if it had taken away the captaincy definitively, it would be directly pointing him out as guilty, without leaving room for the presumption of innocence.

Why did Barça take away the captain's armband from Ter Stegen?

This situation arose due to the refusal of 'MATS' to sign the permission for the club to send the medical report stating his absence (after undergoing surgery for back pain) to LaLiga.

In this way, the Catalan club could register Joan García, using a percentage of the native of Mönchengladbach's salary. However, Ter Stegen would not be interested in helping the Blaugrana team in this scenario.

The player's refusal added further complexity to the already delicate relationship with the club. The entity had that salary margin to speed up priority registrations, so the refusal generated a lot of discomfort in the board.

In Can Barça, the lack of collaboration in an institutional procedure was interpreted, at least apparently, as a gesture of defiance that further strained the atmosphere.

It is worth remembering that Ronald Araujo became the first captain on a provisional basis, always waiting to see how the conflict between Marc and the club ends. The other captains, for now, will be Frenkie de Jong, Raphinha and Pedri.

Barça-Ter Stegen, a tense relationship since the arrival of Joan García

The relationship between the Blaugrana entity and the German goalkeeper began to become tense after the club went to the summer market to acquire the services of Joan García. This, apparently, did not please 'MATS' at all, who began to see how his starting position was in danger.

And, in fact, everything points to the fact that, after returning from his recovery, he will be the third Barça goalkeeper, while García starts, in principle, as first and Wojciech Szczęsny as second, waiting for Iñaki Peña's departure to materialize.
