Barça are confident that they will be able to register the players without being under the 1:1 rule. However, everything is subject to LaLiga giving the green light to the club's operations
Days go by and the registrations of Joan García, Marcus Rashford or Wojciech Szczęsny as players of FC Barcelona have not yet been announced.
However, the club would be calm, as they are confident that they will be able to register the players, because the 1:1 rule would not be a major inconvenience, for now, although the ideal is to operate under this regulation, as long as the league validates its operations, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Ter Stegen's injury and the agreement with the DRC, a way to channel the situation
However, in the last hours at Barça there have been several events that would be helping to unlock this situation. In this sense, the Blaugrana team is moving between medical emergencies and financial strategies in this section of the summer market.
The most recent revolves around the injury of Marc-André ter Stegen and the regulatory margin that could allow the registration of García as a reinforcement in the goal.
Thus, according to current regulations, as it is the summer market, the club could only use 50% of the injured player to register a substitute, provided that the absence exceeds four months.
However, if the LaLiga Medical Commission certifies an absence of five months or more, the percentage would rise to 80%, which would give Barça greater flexibility to maneuver.
In parallel, the club has closed in the last hours a sponsorship agreement with the Republic of the Congo, which will contribute 40 million euros over four seasons, 10 'kilos' per year.
Will Barcelona be able to register before the start of the season?
This scenario is taken into account due to the excess in the wage bill and not operating under the 1:1 rule, something that the club has been facing since March.
Despite this, the key will be in the salary margin that the entity manages to generate through exits, contractual adjustments and new income, since through this it is decided whether or not players can be registered.
It is worth remembering that the recent exit operations —such as those of Pablo Torre, Pau Víctor, Ansu Fati and Clément Lenglet— have helped the club to release around 22 'kilos', in terms of financial fair play, key for registrations.
In addition, to that figure must be added the 10 M€ corresponding to the first year of the alliance with the DRC, which would be pending validation by the Spanish football association. Once approved, Barça will have a total margin of 32 million.
Barça's intention is to redirect the 100 million it needs to definitively balance fair play; this figure ended up being annulled in March after LaLiga's approval in January.
Why did LaLiga cancel those 100 M€ to Barça?
Specifically on January 3, the association, chaired by Javier Tebas, validated the operation of the VIP boxes of the future Spotify Camp Nou. That day, the club started operating under the 1:1 rule, after LaLiga authorized 30 million from FORTA S.A. and another 70 from New Era Visionary and Group Iberia S.L.
But the panorama changed drastically for Barça at the end of March, when LaLiga received the documentation corresponding to the club's Financial Statements and the limited review report dated December 31, 2024.
Thus, after analyzing this information, the association concluded that the sale operation of corporate boxes did not meet the required criteria.
Therefore, as a consequence, LaLiga invalidated said operation and gave way to reduce the 100 million the cost limit of the Catalan team's squad, affecting the ability to register players and sign.
Although the registration of Joan García would depend mostly on what happens with Ter Stegen, both Rashford and Szczęsny would be subject to the maximum body of Spanish football validating the operations carried out by Barça to register, without being under the 1:1 rule.
