Marc Bernal detailed to 'Deleito' the tough process of his recovery and was enthusiastic after being almost 10 months away from the fields. The pivot aims to enter the preseason of Barça

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Marc Bernal could enter the call-up of FC Barcelona for the preseason that the team will do in Asia. However, the player comes from going through a calvary after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee and suffering an injury associated with the external meniscus during a match against Rayo Vallecano (matchday 3) at the beginning of the 2024/25 season.

In this sense, that injury left Bernal out for the rest of the season, who was being one of the most regular players of Barça, in addition to beginning to gain prominence among the culé fans for his skill in the midfield area of the field.

After his injury, the player went through surgery to repair the affected area, and after almost 10 months, the defensive midfielder opened his heart in an interview with 'Deleito' (sponsor of his campus), where he pointed out that, although he will be with the team, he still does not know if he will play. "In principle I will be there to train, I don't know about playing."

Likewise, he pointed to a return with confidence; at least that's how he imagines his return to the field.

Similarly, the 18-year-old player reflected on how he lived all this time that he was out of the field, showing an initial frustration: "Mentally it destroys you. It's spending a few months in which it's crazy what you think and how you scratch your head. It's very difficult, you want to do things you can't."

Marc Bernal and the importance of the support of his teammates and family

Bernal commented that both Gavi and captain Marc-André ter Stegen supported him throughout the process. The midfielder native of Los Palacios suffered a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament of his right knee, in addition to an injury associated with the meniscus in a match with the Spanish national team.

For his part, Ter Stegen suffered a complete tear of the patellar tendon of his right knee three matchdays later in the same season, specifically against Villarreal CF.

In this context, Bernal also valued the importance of his loved ones, in addition to the relevance of mental health professionals.

"Those who help you the most are friends and family. Also my psychologist, who I have been going to for years, and the physio; I spend more hours with him than with my family."

A new opportunity for Bernal

The 2025/26 season represents a new opportunity for Bernal's talent, since during the season that ended last May 25 for the azulgrana team, the holding midfielder could barely play 3 matches (244 minutes).

The player would have started training at the Ciutat Esportiva a few days ago, following a specific plan that the club's physical trainers have organized for him.

Likewise, the technical staff values Bernal's game very positively, and if it had not been for the injury that left him out for almost the entire last season, Marc could have become one of the regulars in the starting eleven of coach Hansi Flick.
