FC Barcelona leads a curious statistic in LaLiga 2025/26 related to VAR. Discover the key details
FC Barcelona, after two matchdays played in LaLiga EA Sports 2025/26, has already managed to climb to the top of the table, adding six out of six possible points, only surpassed by goal difference by Villarreal CF, with three more goals in favor in the goal average (+7 to +4).
Beyond the results, there is a section that is highlighting the Blaugrana team in this newly started season: the record of interventions by VAR. Specifically, all the decisions that have been reviewed from the VOR room.
Barcelona leads VAR reviews in LaLiga
So far, a total of four calls to VAR have been made in the 20 matches played so far in the local tournament. How many has Barça starred in? A total of two, leading this statistic. The rest of the reviews are divided between:
- Athletic Club - Rayo Vallecano | Matchday 2 | Minute 63: Review of a penalty committed by Gerard Gumbau (Rayo) on Oihan Sancet (Athletic).
- Real Sociedad - RCD Espanyol | Matchday 2 |: Review of a penalty taken by Javi Puado (Espanyol) and saved by Álex Remiro. Play reviewed, annulled and repeated due to invasion of the area by Real players.
Curiously, both reviews of FC Barcelona had the same referee from the VOR room as the protagonist: Jorge Figueroa Vázquez. However, the results of these reviews were mixed for the Blaugrana club.
VAR in action: all the reviews of the Blaugrana club so far
While on matchday 1 against RCD Mallorca the review was favorable for the Culés, when the call led the field referee José Luis Munuera Montero to rectify the initial decision to show a yellow card to Vedat Muriqi after a criminal tackle on Joan García in the 37th minute. Finally, the action ended with a red card for the Kosovar striker.

Now, on matchday 2, during the match against Levante UD, referee Alejandro Hernández Hernández was called to the VAR in the 45+3' minute by Jorge Figueroa Vázquez to review an action starring Alejandro Balde. A shot from Comandante Morales hit the full-back's hand, which was slightly detached from the body.

After the review, a penalty was awarded, generating controversy. However, the action did not directly influence the final score for the Culés: the match ended 2-3 in favor of Barcelona, even though the initial action momentarily meant 2-0 for Levante.
