The two youngest goalscorers in a Champions knockout match are from Barcelona

Lamine Yamal was one of the main protagonists, if not the main one, of FC Barcelona's victory against Benfica (3-1) to secure a ticket to the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The star from Mataró assisted Raphinha in the goal that opened the scoring, but also scored a stunning goal to remember to give the Catalans the lead after Otamendi had temporarily equalized the score.

With this goal, the '19' blaugrana broke a couple of precocity records. The forward became the youngest player with a goal and an assist in a match of the top club competition in Europe. At 17 years and 241 days, the Catalan winger surpassed Breel Embolo, who had done the same with Basel against Ludogorets (4-0).

To top it off, Lamine is now the second youngest player to celebrate a goal in a knockout match of the Champions League, only behind fellow La Masia product Bojan Krkic, who at 17 years and 217 days scored the winning goal for Barça against Schalke 04 in the first leg of the quarter-finals of that edition of the tournament.

With his goal against Benfica, Yamal surpassed Jude Bellingham and Jamal Musiala in the ranking of the youngest goalscorers in the Champions League knockout phase. The first goal of the Englishman from Real Madrid in the competition, with Dortmund against Manchester City in the quarter-finals, made him the second youngest goalscorer in the knockout phase of the competition and came shortly after the German scored with Bayern Munich against Lazio in the round of 16. Now, both have been surpassed by Barça's '19'.
