FC Barcelona and Uber recently signed a collaboration agreement through which the American company specializing in mobility and transportation services becomes an official partner of the club until 2027. Pau Cubarsí was chosen to accompany the general director of Barça, Manel del Río, in the signing of the contract.

Conversely, the CEO of Uber Spain and Portugal, Felipe Fernández Aramburu, was responsible for sealing the agreement. From now on, Uber will implement a new scheme of pick-up zones for users at the matches of the Barça team.

Likewise, the contract establishes "the promotion of sustainable mobility solutions, such as Uber's 100% electric service, available in Barcelona for a few weeks now."

In addition, to celebrate the signing of the agreement, Barça and Uber are launching a limited edition of 30 CUPRA Tavascan vehicles completely customized with the club's colors. Likewise, the American company and its subsidiary Uber Eats will have a presence in the advertising spaces of the Spotify Camp Nou after the reopening of the Estadi.

How much money does Barcelona earn from the agreement with Uber?

According to 'Mundo Deportivo', the Barça team will make around 1 million euros net per year from the Uber sponsorship. The main objective of the alliance is to "improve the mobility of the fans and the traffic management around the new Spotify Camp Nou and the different spaces of the Espai Barça."

Thanks to the agreement, the company will also be able to display its logo on the club's official vehicles, along with the reinforcement of 'hospitality' services in each of Barça's home matches in La Liga, Copa del Rey, and UEFA Champions League.

Uber will also be able to sign partnership agreements with players from the Barça squad. Not in vain, Cubarsí was chosen to wear the Barça jersey with the year 2027 and the name of the company.

Reactions to the Barça-Uber agreement

Manel del Río, after signing the contract, stated that it is an agreement that "reinforces Barça's commitment to innovation and collaboration with leading brands in mobility solutions," guaranteeing the culers a comfortable, safe arrival and departure that respects the environment.

Likewise, Felipe Fernández applauded the link between Uber and the Blaugrana team. "FC Barcelona not only moves passions, it also moves the city. With this agreement we want to do our bit to make the experience of going to the stadium even better." However, it wasn't all good news for Barça after announcing their new partner.

Prior to Tuesday's match between Barcelona and Olympiacos, club executives had to meet with the taxi association to avoid a strike in protest of the agreement. The aim of the protest was to block access routes to Montjuïc during the Champions League match, an initiative led by 'Élite Taxi'.

Finally, Barça avoided the strike, but the agreement with Uber has not sat well with taxi drivers, as they believe that Uber's interference on match days affects their clientele in Barcelona.
