YOUNG PROMISES
Vicky López and Lamine Yamal: the Barça gems aiming for the Ballon d'Or
The young duo symbolises the club's golden future and keeps the hopes of the Barça fans alive
FC Barcelona marked a milestone in its history when Alexia Putellas and Lionel Messi won the Ballon d'Or in their respective categories. Three years later, the Blaugrana club could be preparing another historic feat with two new names emerging with force: Vicky López and Lamine Yamal. Both recently recognized as Golden Girl and Golden Boy 2024.
Two talents that already shine
At just 18 years old, Vicky López has demonstrated prodigious talent. Recently renewed until 2028, the Madrid native is already a key player in the Barça Women's team and has achieved impressive milestones, such as being the youngest player to make her debut with the first team in a Clasico or in the Champions League. This year, her brilliant performance earned her the prestigious Golden Girl award, consolidating her as one of the most promising prospects in women's football.
For her part, Lamine Yamal, at 17 years old, continues to garner praise and recognition. The forward, considered one of the greatest talents to come out of La Masia, not only won Golden Boy 2024, but he also made it into the top 10 of the men's Ballon d'Or rankings. Despite his youth, his maturity on the pitch and his ability to influence important matches have made him a leading figure at Barça.
Words of ambition and dreams
Both players have made their goals clear. Vicky López, after collecting the Golden Girl award, expressed her desire to continue working to reach the highest level. "I hope to continue with enthusiasm, to think big and to be spared from injuries," said the player.
Lamine Yamal, with a similar approach, says that the Ballon d'Or is not an obsession, but rather a dream. "First I want to win collective titles, like a Champions League or a World Cup. If I achieve that, the Ballon d'Or will be a consequence," said the young forward, who also confessed It would be an honour to receive the highest individual award.
La Masía: cradle of legends
The possibility of both players becoming Ballon d'Or winners in their respective categories is not only a dream for fans, but also a testament to the success of La Masía. With a history of having produced 12 Ballon d'Or winners, the Barça youth system continues to prove itself a source of talent.
Barça Women's coach Pere Romeu is full of praise for Vicky López. "She is a complete player, with vision, technique and a great ability to adapt. "Their future is bright," he said.
An unprecedented dream
Until now, no club has managed to crown its players with both Ballon d'Ors in the same year. Although Barça has already accumulated 19 awards (15 in the men's category and 4 in the women's), the possibility that Vicky and Lamine break this barrier would raise the prestige of the club even further.
