Barça defeated Benfica (4-5) in matchday 7 of the Champions League and remains in 2nd place in the standings. The Catalans are already qualified for the round of 16
The first half of the seventh matchday of the Champions League 2024/25 was filled with exciting matches and surprising results. Liverpool remains the undisputed leader of the tournament with a perfect record, while FC Barcelona secured 2nd place after their historic comeback against Benfica and ensured direct qualification to the round of 16.
The top 8 positions are completed by Atlético de Madrid (3rd), Atalanta (4th), Arsenal (5th), Bayer Leverkusen (6th), Inter Milan (7th), and Aston Villa (8th), although the 'gunners' and 'nerazzurri' have a pending match. In the 'playoff' zone are Stade Brestois (9th), Monaco (10th), Lille (11th), Bayern Munich (12th), Borussia Dortmund (13th), Juventus (14th), Milan (15th), and PSV Eindhoven (16th), with the Munich, Milanese, and 'les pirates' waiting for their respective matches.

Real Madrid close to elimination, for now
Bruges occupies the 17th place, ahead of Benfica (18th), Sporting CP (19th), and Feyenoord (20th), with the Belgians, the Dutch, and the Lions being the only ones who played last Tuesday. Meanwhile, Stuttgart (21st), Real Madrid (22nd), who will host RB Salzburg this Wednesday at the Bernabéu, Celtic (23rd), and Manchester City (24th) currently close the classification for the 'playoff'.
Finally, in the elimination zone are Dinamo Zagreb, PSG, Bologna, Shakhtar Donetsk, Sparta Prague, Girona, Red Star, Sturm Graz, RB Salzburg, RB Leipzig, Slovan Bratislava, and Young Boys. Matchday 7 will conclude this upcoming Wednesday, January 22 with the 9 pending matches.
