The last League Classic of the 2024-25 season could take place outside of Spain. According to the program 'Què t'hi Jugues', FC Barcelona does not rule out an alternative venue to face Real Madrid in May

Calendar of FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona hopes to return to Spotify Camp Nou in May to play the last League Classic against Real Madrid. However, the program 'Què t'hi Jugues' from the 'SER' network leaked this Wednesday a 'bombshell' about the 'plan B' that the azulgrana team would be cooking up in case the Estadi is not ready for the end of the 2024-25 season. Although the works are progressing well, some doubt whether they will be able to reopen the culé temple before next summer.

In this sense, the culé plan would aim to play the Barça-Madrid match outside of Spain. With Montjuïc ruled out starting the last week of April due to several events from the Ajuntament, the club would seek an alternative venue in Europe for the last big home game of the season. As if it were a final, the Classic would have to move to a large stadium that guarantees both clubs a significant economic return.

The match scheduled for Sunday, May 11, is expected to be decisive in determining the League title, as only 3 matchdays will remain after the Classic. However, Barça hopes to resolve its stay at Camp Nou for the last month of competition, where Hansi Flick's team could also play hypothetical Champions League semifinals in the first week of May.

The RFEF would not prevent a Classic outside of Spain, but LaLiga...

For now, Barcelona has not communicated this proposal to Real Madrid or the Federation or LaLiga. In the case of the RFEF, there would be no obstacle from their side, as other competitions (such as the Supercopa de España) have been held outside of Spain since 2019. LaLiga, on the other hand, could impose some hurdles, although Javier Tebas himself has been negotiating for several years the possibility of holding some matchdays of the tournament abroad.

"I don't know when, but this time LaLiga will play official matches abroad; I think it could be in the 2025-26 season", assured the president of the league in April 2024, during an interview for the portal 'Expansión'. In principle, the competition would move to the United States to "boost the North American market, which is the second for LaLiga after Spain". In the case of the May Classic, a venue within Europe would be preferred to avoid complicating travel too much.
