Barça, Madrid, and Atlético fight for the title: we analyze the decisive matches and key points to become champions of LaLiga EA Sports 2024/25
Real Madrid, Atlético, and Barcelona are fighting relentlessly to win LaLiga EA Sports 2024/25. With 16 matchdays left, the point difference is so tight that any of the three teams could claim the title. With four months of competition ahead and key matchups on the schedule, the league is more alive than ever, but only one can be champion 🏆. Who has the best chance of winning?
🔥 Espanyol pulled off a huge surprise in matchday 22 of LaLiga with a narrow victory over Real Madrid (1-0). The stumble of the white team has not only changed the landscape of the table but has also raised the expectations of Barça and Atlético in the title race.
TEAM | POINTS | GP | W | D | L | GF | GA |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1. Real Madrid | 49 | 22 | 15 | 4 | 3 | 50 | 21 |
2. Atlético | 48 | 22 | 14 | 6 | 2 | 37 | 14 |
3. FC Barcelona | 45 | 22 | 14 | 3 | 5 | 60 | 24 |
However, despite the defeat, Real Madrid remains in the lead with 49 points, now just one point above Atlético Madrid, who defeated Mallorca at home (2-0). Barcelona, for its part, has been the big beneficiary of Ancelotti's team's stumble. With their victory over Alavés (1-0), they have closed the gap to 4 points from the top just before Real Madrid and Atlético face off in the Madrid derby on matchday 23.
Madrid-Atlético and Sevilla-Barça
And if Hansi Flick's team manages to win their match against Sevilla at the Sánchez Pizjuán, any result between the 'merengues' and 'colchoneros' in the Madrid derby would be favorable for the interests of the 'culés'. A draw would leave Barça just 2 points from the top and 1 from second place.
Another possibility is that Real Madrid defeats Atlético, a result that would keep Barça 4 points behind the whites but would equal them on points with Atlético. And if the 'colchoneros' were to win, Simeone's team would take the lead, surpassing Madrid, while the blue and garnet team would remain in third place, 3 points from the top and just 1 from Ancelotti's team.
The quarter-finals of the Cup also 'play'
The schedule does not relent, and just before matchday 23 of the league, all three teams will have to play the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey. A factor that could be decisive and affect each team's performance in the league matches.
MATCH | DATE | RESULT |
---|---|---|
Atlético vs Getafe | Tuesday, February 4, 21:30 | To be played |
Leganés vs Real Madrid | Wednesday, February 5, 21:00 | To be played |
Real Sociedad vs Osasuna | Thursday, February 6, 19:30 | To be played |
Valencia vs FC Barcelona | Thursday, February 6, 21:30 | To be played |
But the wear and tear, fatigue, and rest days will not be the same for everyone. On paper, Atlético has a significant advantage over Real Madrid and Barcelona. The rojiblancos play their match on Tuesday at home, while the Madrid team plays on Wednesday in Leganés and Barça on Thursday in Valencia.
The race for the League 2024/25
Real Madrid, Atlético, and FC Barcelona will exhaust all their options and fight until the end. However, in the battle for the league title, there are many factors to consider, unexpected and uncontrollable situations and scenarios, for or against, that can end up being decisive.

Real Madrid - 1st
Carlo Ancelotti's team has not been left with the most comfortable schedule possible until the end of the season. This week they will have a cup match in Leganés, and after hosting Atlético in a decisive match on matchday 23, they will visit Osasuna at El Sadar, a stadium that is always a 'trap'. As if that weren't enough, they will first face Guardiola's City in the first leg of the Champions playoffs. Barça and Atlético, already qualified, will be able to rest.
Just four days after visiting El Sadar, they will face the return leg of the Champions against City at the Bernabéu. Again, Barça and Atlético will be able to recover strength. In matchdays 26 and 28, they will have two risky away games: first at Betis and then at Villarreal. The next demanding commitment will be on matchday 32 of the league with the visit of Athletic.
And on matchday 35, the big dish will arrive with the visit to Barcelona to play a Clásico that could be a final depending on how both teams arrive at that duel. The last obstacle will come on matchday 37, in the penultimate round Real Madrid will face Sevilla at the Sánchez Pizjuán stadium.

📊 Matches for Real Madrid away from the Santiago Bernabéu until the end of LaLiga: 7
⚽ Osasuna, Betis, Villarreal, Barça, and Sevilla: The 'dangers' for Real Madrid away from home.
Atlético de Madrid - 2nd
For 'Cholo' Simeone's team, the schedule is also not comfortable until the end of the season, with 7 home matches and 9 away. This week they will also have a cup commitment, but it is undoubtedly the most manageable of all, hosting Getafe at home. Nothing compared to the duel on Saturday, when they will visit the Bernabéu to face Real Madrid in the most decisive match of the league so far.
The next challenging matches will be at home, but against two tough rivals. First, Athletic Club on matchday 26, and then the match against FC Barcelona which, depending on how the standings go, could be another final (matchday 28). In matchdays 29 and 30, the colchoneros will have two consecutive and difficult away games, first at Espanyol and then at Sevilla. The last 'great exam' will be on matchday 37 with a visit to El Sadar to face Osasuna.
📊 Matches for Atlético at the Metropolitano until the end of LaLiga: 7

📊 Matches for Atlético away from the Metropolitano until the end of LaLiga: 9
⚽ Real Madrid, Espanyol, Sevilla, Osasuna: The 'dangers' for Atlético away from home.
FC Barcelona - 3rd
If Real Madrid and Atlético have several dangers in their schedule, Barça is not falling short. Hansi Flick's team will face rivals who are in very good form and can give them more than one headache. It all starts this week with a visit to Valencia in the quarter-finals of the Cup, but it will be on Sunday when they have their first major league final against Sevilla at the Sánchez Pizjuán. The match on matchday 23 coincides with the Madrid derby, and if the culés want to truly fight for the title, they must secure all three points.
The second final will be on matchday 28 with the visit to Atlético de Madrid's field in what could be a direct duel for the championship. And on matchday 35, the Clásico against Real Madrid will arrive, which, with only three matches left to play, could become another super final of the league. Everything will depend on the options with which the three teams arrive at the final stretch.
But possibly just winning the Clásico will not be enough. The last three matchdays that the blue and garnet team will have to face are a true challenge. On matchday 36, they will visit Espanyol's field, on matchday 37 they will host Villarreal, and to finish big... in the last matchday, they will face Athletic Club at San Mamés. Quite a task.
📊 Matches for Barcelona at Montjuic until the end of LaLiga: 9
⚽ Real Madrid and Villarreal: the most complicated exams at home.
📊 Matches for Barcelona away from Montjuic until the end of LaLiga: 7
⚽ Sevilla, Atlético, Espanyol, and Athletic Club: A schedule without concessions for Barça in their away games.
In the case of Barça, it is worth noting that we have highlighted as complicated matches those very clear matchups. However, after the slump of recent months, some of the theoretically manageable rivals may not be so easy.
🚨 The precedents indicate that the culés have lost up to 13 points against teams in the mid-lower table. Specifically, there are five matchups where they have suffered three defeats and two draws.
- Real Sociedad 1-0 FC Barcelona (11th place)
- Celta 2-2 FC Barcelona (13th place)
- FC Barcelona 1-2 Las Palmas (15th place)
- FC Barcelona 0-1 Leganés (16th place)
- Getafe 1-1 FC Barcelona (14th place)
