Real Madrid wants to have a month of rest after the Club World Cup and hopes to reschedule its 1st LaLiga 25/26 match, against Osasuna, for the end of October

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Real Madrid has formally requested LaLiga to postpone its first match of the 2025/26 season, at home against Osasuna, due to the reduction of their vacations due to the Club World Cup. If the 'merengues' eliminate Paris Saint-Germain in the semifinals, they will only have 18 days free of official matches this summer.

The final of the World Cup will be played this Sunday, July 13th, and Madrid's league debut was scheduled for Tuesday, August 19th at the Santiago Bernabéu, that is, 37 days after the definition of the FIFA tournament.

The team will take a couple of weeks off before returning to work the first week of August. Hence, the employers have no reason to reject the request, although a recent precedent contradicts the competition chaired by Javier Tebas.

LaLiga will accept the request that it denied to Barça against the same rival this year

In March of this year, FC Barcelona asked LaLiga to reschedule their match of matchday 27, also at home against Osasuna, due to the death of Dr. Carles Miñarro. Both clubs agreed to play the match in the final stretch of the season, between the penultimate and the last matchday in May.

However, LaLiga rejected the proposal and forced Barça to play against Osasuna on March 27th, just after a break for national teams. The 'culés' could not count on Ronald Araujo and Raphinha, who had just played the South American qualifier. Even so, Hansi Flick's team won by a landslide (3-0), in a match where the Navarrese claimed the improper alignment of Iñigo Martínez.

When will the Real Madrid-Osasuna match of matchday 1 of LaLiga be played?

This season, however, LaLiga will not put obstacles to Real Madrid's request to postpone the match until the end of October, just after the first Clásico against Barça (at home).

The match between whites and 'rojillos' would be played on Tuesday, October 29th, a week in which there will be no Champions League or international break. This would allow the 'merengues' to play three consecutive matches at the Bernabéu, since the following matchday they will receive Valencia.

Unless there is a surprise, LaLiga will give the 'ok' shortly. Xabi Alonso's team, in this way, will debut in the tournament visiting the newly promoted Oviedo, on August 23rd or 24th.

The Spanish football championship will officially start on Friday, August 15th with Girona-Rayo (19:00) and Villarreal-Oviedo (21:30), and should end on Tuesday, August 19th with the match between Real Madrid and Osasuna.
