Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was not called up by PSG for the European Super Cup and could soon leave the reigning Champions League champions
Luis Enrique has announced the Paris Saint-Germain squad for the trip to Udine, Italy, to play in the UEFA Super Cup final next Wednesday against Tottenham, the winner of the last Europa League. The big news in 'Lucho's' squad list is the exclusion of Gianluigi Donnarumma, sparking speculation about his departure from the Parisian club.
It's worth noting that the Italian goalkeeper has not renewed his contract with PSG, which expires in June 2026, and his desire is to leave for Manchester United, either this summer or the next. If PSG fails to extend the goalkeeper's contract, he would leave on a free transfer at the end of the season, and the club would not receive any transfer fee.
Donnarumma won practically everything with PSG last season, where he guarded the Parisian goal on 48 occasions. His honors included the treble: Ligue 1, the Coupe de France, and the Champions League. The only trophy he failed to win was the Club World Cup, a tournament in which he lost the final to Chelsea.
For this season, PSG signed 23-year-old Lucas Chevalier from Lille, investing 40 million euros plus an additional 15 million in potential bonuses. With Donnarumma's possible departure, Chevalier is set to become the new starting goalkeeper for Luis Enrique's team.
Manchester United lacks confidence in Onana and considers Donnarumma
André Onana has not been convincing at Manchester United, which is why the club is considering looking for a goalkeeper to provide more security in goal after a disastrous season, in which the Old Trafford side not only failed to win any titles but also missed out on European competitions for the 25/26 season.
In that regard, the English media claim that Gianluigi Donnarumma will be the next goalkeeper for the 'Red Devils', a transfer approved by Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim. 'Man U' would reportedly pay the French club around 26 million pounds for the 26-year-old goalkeeper, who has already won a European Championship with Italy.
Manchester United wants to be a major force in English football again. This summer, they have signed Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Diego León. Will the Italian goalkeeper be their next reinforcement?
Inter Milan also wants Donnarumma
Meanwhile, in Italy, a possible return to Serie A has been rumored for the 'Azzurri' goalkeeper. Inter Milan has reportedly been interested in Gianluigi Donnarumma, seeing him as the ideal candidate to replace Yann Sommer, whose contract also expires in June 2026.
Donnarumma's arrival at Inter Milan could be controversial, as the goalkeeper was developed at and made his professional debut for AC Milan, and he could be labeled a 'traitor'. Now the dilemma is: will Donnarumma stay at PSG this summer or look for a new destination?
