Pau Víctor talked about his departure from FC Barcelona in an interview for Gerard Romero's 'Jijantes' podcast, where the Catalan forward admitted his desire to play continuously and continue evolving for his development as a professional. Although he greatly enjoyed the successes of the first team in 24/25, he wanted to have more prominence.
"It weighed heavily on me to be at Barça, but I think the decision was the right one: I needed to play and grow and after talking with the coach and my environment, this was the idea”, said the current forward of Sporting de Braga.
Similarly, the player from San Cugat del Vallés praised coach Hansi Flick for his incredible management of the culé team and acknowledged that the German coach was always willing to count on him and the youngsters from the reserve team.
"It's not easy to manage the team with so many matches because you focus on the 11, 12 or 13 who always play because you don't have time to give them that space, but Hansi was very aware of us”, expressed the attacker.
Pau Víctor's gratitude to Hansi Flick and his key moments as a culé
In that sense, Pau Víctor revealed how his last chat with Flick was, before leaving for Portugal. “I have no complaints, in fact, when I left I sent him a message thanking him for everything last year. He was like a father to us, he told me he would be watching Braga".
The current number '18' of Braga also has fond memories of his only season with Barça. "When we won the Copa del Rey because we won and I could play and two minutes later Jules scored, it was incredible; and the other was the preseason because that's when I said I could play here, and until that moment I didn't think so", he explained regarding his favorite moments of 24/25.
Similarly, regarding his departure from Barça, he spoke about the rumors linked to the possible transfer of Fermín López. In addition to the economic issue, the 23-year-old player mentioned other key factors that may weigh on the decision to change scenery:
"Many things are discussed before making a decision, the family, the distance... You don't make it to hurt anyone, but because it's the best for you"
Pau Víctor already demonstrates his goalscoring ability in Sporting Braga
The forward born in San Cugat del Vallés was sold in the current transfer market for 12 million euros plus another 3 'kilos' in variables, signing a contract with the Portuguese club until June 2030.
The 23-year-old attacker only managed to play 379 minutes in 29 matches, scoring two goals and giving one assist with the first team, which shows how difficult it was for Flick to give him a space in his game plan.
However, Pau Víctor has turned the page and has already made his debut as a scorer in Portugal. In fact, he has accumulated 2 goals in 6 matches, gradually gaining the confidence of coach Carlos Vicens.
The former Barça player, in addition, is only one step away from qualifying for the Europa League league stage after Braga's 4-0 victory against Lincoln FC, so he will surely play the competition. This will be his second European experience, after playing some minutes in the last Champions League with the culés.
