Gerard Piqué spoke about Lamine and Dembélé's favoritism for the 2025 Ballon d'Or before the Kings World Cup final. Who did he choose?
Before the final of the Kings World Cup, starring two Spanish teams, Gerard Piqué took the opportunity to talk about the main candidates for the 2025 Ballon d'Or: Lamine Yamal and Ousmane Dembélé.
Although the former Barça center-back and founder of the Kings League expressed his admiration for both players, he opted for the Barça youth player. Lamine was part of the World Cup of the streamers league as president of the club La Capital together with the youtuber 'La Cobra'.
Finally, Porcinos and Troncos will define the champion this Saturday (21:00 CEST), with the first team looking to retain the trophy. La Capital was left out in the first round, while the club of Neymar Jr., Furia, said goodbye in 'semis'.
Gerard Piqué prefers to see Lamine Yamal winning the Ballon d'Or
"I have had the opportunity to share a dressing room with both Dembélé and Lamine. They are both incredible guys. You already know Ousmane's way of being and Lamine is very talented, very special," Piqué began by saying at the 'VivaTech' in Paris.
In that sense, he added: "I prefer Lamine because he is in Barcelona now and also in the Kings League. I would like Lamine to win. He is very young, very talented. I think he is very special."
However, he also made it clear that, if the award stays in the hands of 'Dembouz', he will feel satisfied. "But I would also like Ousmane. And, if he finally wins, I will be happy for him," Geri pointed out.
Although the 'Mosquito' can improve his records and honors in the 24/25 thanks to the Club World Cup, he will probably miss the entire group stage and, with luck, will arrive for the round of 16 tie. Yamal, on the other hand, is already on vacation with Barça.
Piqué, happy for Luis Enrique's treble with PSG
On the other hand, Piqué took the opportunity to congratulate Luis Enrique for obtaining his second Champions League, this time as coach of Paris Saint-Germain. The consecration in Munich is, precisely, Dembélé's main argument to fight for the Ballon d'Or.
"I know him very well. I had the opportunity to have him as a coach for three years. He is extraordinary. His mentality... he is a true leader. His message has always been 'I don't need big stars, I need a team'. Players playing together for an objective that is the same for everyone and he has had this," explained the former Barça center-back.
He also highlighted the way in which the Asturian was able to deal with Kylian Mbappé's departure last summer. A key factor, because collectively PSG "became more of a team. Playing the best football in Europe and winning in the final against Inter Milan by 5-0. I think the Paris fans should feel very proud of what they have achieved," concluded Geri.
