Paris Saint-Germain closed out 2025 with another international title. In a penalty shootout, Luis Enrique's side defeated Brazilian club Flamengo in Doha (1-1, 2-1 on penalties)
The 2025 Intercontinental Cup remained in the trophy cabinets of Paris Saint-Germain. In the final played in Doha, Qatar, the team led by Luis Enrique, with more suffering than expected, secured victory on penalties against Flamengo (2-1), after a one-goal draw per side in the 120 regulation minutes.
The reigning UEFA Champions League champions took the lead in the first half thanks to a goal from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. However, the Copa Libertadores monarch reacted in the second half with a penalty scored by Jorginho. PSG was superior in regulation time but lacked the finishing touch to regain the lead
In extra time, the Gauls looked physically stronger, but Flamengo managed to hold on for a draw until the penalty shootout. There, Russian goalkeeper Matvey Safonov was the hero, saving four of the five shots taken by the Brazilian team.

Fabián Ruiz had put Luis Enrique's team ahead in the 9th minute, but the goal was disallowed by VAR after it was confirmed that the ball had gone out for a corner at the start of the play. The 0-1 finally came in the 38th minute, after a low cross from Desiré Doué on the right that Kvaratskhelia finished into an empty net following a miscalculation by goalkeeper Agustín Rossi.
After the break, Flamengo pushed forward and equalized thanks to **a questionable penalty by Marquinhos on the Uruguayan De Arrascaeta**. The Uruguayan player seemed to exaggerate his fall inside the box, but the VAR call convinced the main referee to award the foul.Experienced Jorginho fooled Safonov to score the 1-1 in the 62nd minute. 16 minutes later, 'Lucho' brought on Ousmane Dembélé. The '10' had two clear chances in extra time to break the tie, but failed to convert. Furthermore, the 'Mosquito' sent the second penalty kick into the clouds, but Paris still managed to secure the victory.
**Vitinha and Nuno Mendes** scored the first and third penalties of the shootout, while De la Cruz was the only one from Flamengo to successfully convert his. Saúl Níguez, Pedro, Leo Pereira, and Luiz Araújo missed against Safonov, who became the hero, giving PSG a calendar-year sextuple that only FC Barcelona had achieved in 2009

The Gauls won the treble this year (Ligue 1, French Cup, and Champions League), in addition to the French Super Cup, the European Super Cup, and the Intercontinental Cup. With this, they achieved the second sextuple in history in a calendar year, something only achieved by Pep Guardiola's Barça in 2009.
Bayern Munich also won six titles after achieving the treble in 19/20, but the pandemic forced the 2020 Club World Cup to be postponed to February 2021.
PSG could have ended 2025 with seven titles, had it not been for the 3-0 defeat to Chelsea in the final of the World Cup held in the United States. Even so, Luis Enrique's team completed a fantastic year, although their last two trophies were won with difficulty (the UEFA Super Cup was also decided on penalties against Tottenham).
