Luis de la Fuente "defended" Lamine Yamal for the criticism after the Nations League final. The coach of La Roja believes that Spain "is too self-destructive"
Luis de la Fuente gave statements to the press before participating in a talk with Extremaduran coaches organized by the Royal Extremaduran Football Federation (RFEF). The Spanish coach referred, among other aspects of La Roja, to the criticism towards Lamine Yamal after the Nations League final.
"In Spain we are very self-destructive, we go from the heavens to a character for an error to say no. This life is a matter of balance, neither euphoria in successes, nor in failure do I sink, we must be prudent,” began the Riojan coach.
In addition, he assured that the Barça youth player is called to be "a legend of football”, although he is just beginning the "continuous learning process" that the career of every footballer entails. The '19' shone in the 'semis' with a double, but could not repeat his performance in the final against Portugal.
De la Fuente believes that Spain "looks good" and will come back stronger
Similarly, De la Fuente valued the performance of La Roja in recent months, because although the team failed to repeat the trophy in the Nations League, it remains undefeated in official matches for more than a year.
"I am proud to represent my country; to lead the players I lead and above all I am proud of the knowledge I have of Spanish grassroots football and professional football, because that is what allows me to provide solutions to the inconveniences that this work has," argued the coach.
In that sense, he believes that the team "looks very good" ahead of the next World Cup, as it has an "excellent raw material", alluding to the young talent that Lamine Yamal leads alongside Nico Williams.
Spain will return to action in September visiting Bulgaria and Turkey, for the European qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. The other rival of La Roja will be Georgia and the World Cup places will be defined with two other double days in October and November.
Lamine Yamal's 'dart' to his 'haters' on Instagram
While enjoying his vacations, Lamine Yamal shared a series of photographs on his Instagram account with what was his last week: action with La Roja, helicopter flights and a well-deserved rest after a very demanding season.
However, the most striking thing about the carousel of photographs was the phrase "They complain about the bad, they abuse the good". A 'dart' to his critics on social networks, another sign of his character and personality.
Yamal will return to work with Barça just for his 18th birthday, on July 13. That week the official signing of his new contract will take place, along with the presentation of the number he will wear in 25/26 (the '10').
